View Full Version : 66 lbs. safe for PC 600???

Just wondering if stringing PC 600 at 66lbs is reasonably safe. I know these frames can warp at high tension, but 66 lbs shouldn't be a problem, right???
I would be using a 16 or 17g synthetic gut.

The recommended tension range for the PC 600 is 48-58 lbs. A couple of lbs above this range is okay but 66 lbs is a bit too much.

... unless you're Mark Phillippoussis and Nate Ferguson is stringing your racquets. Then, you can go up to 80 pounds.

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I will try a Kevlar hybrid at 58lbs to replicate the stiffness of syn gut at 66lbs??

Wow the PC 600 can break @ 70 lbs? I strung my POG OS at 72lbs before, and it was the strings, not the racket that snapped...I used 16g sythetic, I should have use 15g...

If you are going to string over 65lbs, usually 16g strings are almost at the limit before snapping, so I would recommend 15L instead for higher tensions.

A friend of mine strings his POG's at 75lbs routinely. He has had a few crack over the years, but considering how much he plays and how hard he hits, they seem to hold up well.

I'm trying to get a fairly stiff, stringbed feel, with good bite, and good tension maintanence. I have played with Big Banger Alu's, didnt care for them. Never played gut. I may try a Kevlar hybrid at about 58lbs.

I have several 6.0 85s and a PC600.

I am stringing the 6.0 85s at 68lbs with multis (NXT Tour 17) or natural gut (Babolat VS 16, or Tonic 16). No problems for the racquets and for my elbow.

Based on this thinking, when I got my PC600, I said (and my stringer agreed) that a drop of 4lbs should be fine, taking into account the denser pattern. The racquet withstood that tension (64lbs) no probs.

Well, I didn't! Serving with it killed my elbow after say 20 practice serves. I was out of action for 1 month.

Then, I switched to 54lbs with nat gut. I said: if this tension with nat gut is going to be too much, I'll sell the racquet.

Was't necessary. It playes beautifully.

Thus, I strongly recommend under 58lbs, especially if using some of the harsher strings/polys, which I don't.

Does it play "crisp" or does it catch and pocket the ball? Personally, I like the ball to pop off the stringbed versus catch and sling if you know what I'm saying.

well it's a 107 so it can take 72lbs. I think the original tension listing for the POG OS was like 55-70lbs.

At 54lbs, Tonic 16, I think I have lots of control. There's some trampoline effect, but not much.

But you just have to experiment for yourself.
