How good do you have to be to be sponsored? Do you have to have a certain NTRP level, or win some tournaments? Anyone know? Is anyone here sponsored?

dont call them, they'll call you.

Vantage is a good alternative though.

lol I like that line. It's pretty much true. If you think you're good enough to get sponsored and no-one has asked you, then you're probably wrong. Usually about top 50 in your age group nationally would get one from the main companies.

sponsored as in free stuff? the only person i can think of is SydneyJim.

you can apply for preferred player deals, but you can get a similar price on rackets if you know where to go.

Nice gimmic with vantage.. they "sponsor" you but you end up paying basically the same price as if you went out and picked up a new racquet. That's not called being sponsored, thats called falling for a marketing trap.

Oh anyone want to buy my racquet? I'll give you a discount if you can beat me... only $199.99, otherwise its $249.99.... ya.....

If you think you're good enough to get sponsored and no-one has asked you, then you're probably wrong.

If that was really the case then companies wouldn't provide details on their website about getting sponsored. Sure they might target the usual suspects - top ranked players and the like- but they realise they can't get to everyone so they provide a system where you can contact them.

Basically, if you sit back and wait to be contacted then you're wasting your time. Be proactive and make contact with the company or your local rep and put forward a good case for why they should sponsor you. My nephew lives in Australia and he got a sponsorship from Fischer after replying to an ad in their national tennis magazine looking for suitable players.

So, if you can make a good case, write to the various companies and let them decide if you're worth sponsoring. I would have thought that was the first step anyone would take.

Yes, I'm thinking I should be sponsored. After all, I'm personable, average looking, and in the right demographic for my potential sponsors. If you have some suggestions for me, please feel free to contribute, but I think these might be a good start:

1. http://www.diapersbriefs.com/
2. http://www.supportplus.com/socks.cfm?catx=tsocks&title=Therapeutic+Socks
3. http://www.thewheelchairsite.com/

Yeah a mate in my tennis team did the same thing. A lot of kids have actually, but that's not a full sponsorship usually..

That is right. If I saw you playing with an adult diaper on sporting the Wilson logo on it, I will go buy a case of them myself :-)
