Hi, all
I'm teaching one boy 7yo and the only problem we facing that he tend to keep his elbow stuck to body while hitting both FH and BH, making swing too economy and trajectory of racket head is too short.
ANybody knows how to treat this, that partially could be explained that he not powerfull enough, though his racket is OK for his age, it's 24'.
Or probably it will go away once he will get more power, or...

Will appreciate any tips.

I don't know if it's the strength issue but I wouldn't necessarily look at it as a bad thing. I think the #1 problem for most tennis players of mishitting is that they hit with their elbow away from their body. This kid might have perfect form when he grows a little stronger. I wouldn't worry about it for now.

my advice ( and i train an 8 year old girl who competes with 10 to 12 yr olds) - take it easy on your junior so he doesnt lose interest in tennis later on.

I'd say, have them aim for past the baseline, that'll force them to put a full swing. then slow it down to keep it in.

Dai,

You need to teach him to extend through contact. A good reference point for the follow through is to have the elbow pointing to the net well in front of his body. It is almost like throwing your elbow forward. This will get the racket to move through the ball and will get his body weight behind the ball. Here is a good indicator that a player has hit through the ball properly:

How far in front of him are the balls landing? It sounds as if the ball is being put too close to him, toss it further out in front, so that he has to reach out. Then have him finish the inside of his elbow to his chin. But do not let the racquet hit his back.

Uff,

Thanks all your guys for incredible response !!!
Tx JCo872, for your elbow.
Tx SFrazeur, I'm trying to feed him as far as confortable from his position, it it helps a bit. We still hit from standing position.
Děkuji Czech, I also think so.

Tx DragonFly, I did oposite way, trying first to get control, so I play most of the time with him short court, before palying with his grand, he alwyase hit planes in the sky, and now I put him on good control I think.
This boy feels with BH little more confortable then with FH, having probably more power with 2H, and I thinky he is not 100% certain righty, he kind of equally confortable with both hands, but I made him righty, as he writes with the right hand. Don't know if anybody teaching both 2H FH&BH, like Santoro plays.
