My friend Myles Golding has a rating of 6.1 and he gets to miss school and stuff. God it's snowing and I have to play for my club soon :(
theres this guy in the year above me and he gets to miss afew days off school to do tennis. i heared that he might play for britain even though he isnt in the top 10 in the country. Also for GCSE i might pick GCSE P.E. depends on afew other factors.

I was going to do GCSE P.E but tennis is the only thing i'm good at, and my school doesnt take tennis seriously.

GCSE PE is like a certain A* for me if I take it....I do football, tennis, badminton, swimming, basketball, table tennis, fitness....And I would only have to do 4. Plus, I heard that the theory is really easy and seeing as I'm like a boffin it should be easy for me :)

Well, it's raining now and most of the snow has melted. But the courts at Harrow have like little holes in them so rain drains through pretty quickly. It might be cancelled, but I'm still gonna head down for a knock.

My school take tennis seriousley. for the 2 sports that i'm good at i'd pick tennis and swimmimng and 2 thats i need to improve on will be football and i dont know for the second one. i'm not a great footy player....

My school did take tennis real seriously, but then the Tennis Coach snapped his Achilles Tendent and now he can never play again...
yeah BTEC's in sport are easier. they can't be failed its impossible to fail a BTEC sport. the only way to fail it is if you dont hand in any work. also 60% of the work you do in GCSE P.E. is practicle and 40% is a 2 hour exam(well thats what i heared). i might take that and creative media.

Do your courts have that little chess pattern with rectangle shaped holes? I remember playing some club league match against harrow on like green and red courts with tiny holes in them
EDIT: Are your courts right next to a large field and a school?

not sure but his name is Tommy Bennett
yea he was in my tournament yesterday lol :)
he isn't amazing at all he is a 9.1 and he was losing in the final to a 8.2 before the 8.2 got injured and he won but if he is only a 9.1 and he is getting coached 5 hours a day then he is not amazing not at all also if it was indoor and i was playing half decent i reckon i could beat him quite easily :)
aw wait theirs two bennett's who pulled out of school and play alot of tennis lol sorry did you mean the 6.1 lad ?

You don't have to be brilliant to miss some school for tennis. Both my brother and i used to miss some school. My bro missed an hour each day! he has stopped now though, as he is in his gcse years. Education is more important that tennis.
Yeh i got a* at GCSE PE. I got so many points out of practical and coursework that i needed to write my name on the exam to get a B! Don't consider it a doss lesson, though, or you wont get anything. put the work in and you will be rewarded.
yeah i was told so by the P.E. teachers in a talk about it.....

well the lad im on about has 5 hours of tennis every day in coaching from the former brazilian number 1 lol but he is only a 9.1 lol he should be something like a 7.2 or something but he isn't that good at all then again he has only been getting coached by brazil's former womens number 1 for a few months.
yeah i wouldnt ask to be coached by a brazilian as they suck at tennis one of the best football teams in the world but one of the worst tennis players in the world

You realise your comparing brazilian tennis to a team that has won 5 world cups and is arguably the best national football team ever. Of course they're gonna suck compared to that but to me, producing one of the best clay-courters ever isn't too shabby.
yeah true not too shabby but still they have no good tennis players atm so i dont see the point of having a former brazilian number 1 who was probabley ranked 100th for afew years maybe reached 80th but not further

First of all I get the impression that you just started tennis & your in about year 9/10 which means unless your either a ridiculously fast learner or are sampras child then you probably won't go pro (unless you play until your like 25+) & second of all 1012007 that was a legend comment
1012007
11-23-2008, 10:19 AM
Tofi - if you think being 80th in the world is ****, then good luck getting higher than that. Also, as 1 guy is from brazil you think he is **** at tennis. UK are **** at tennis, but murray isnt

im 13 and i started tennis when i was 11. also i could make it pro why not why are you all against me???? all i said was that the brazilians arent briliant tennis players and bearly have a great tennis history you could correct me but why the heck do you have to bloody insult me..... i'm a human i have feelings...... im not egoistic but still anyone could make it pro you just have to wait and play loads of tennis tournys.
and you have to train 6 hours a day 250 days a year on drilling, matchplay, fitness, and other stuff.
Not to mention the mental drain it has on you trying to make it on tour after all of that.

Definitely, if you play 50 tennis tournys, you are certain to become pro.
Definitely, if you play 50 tennis tournys, you are certain to become pro.
not really you need to play loads and get international not 50 like lets say 100 - 150 and play good enough to get into like semis or quater finals to get good points to get into top ten in the uk then go international then start from there...... Which brazillian was 80th in the world????

Everything else would follow that
i agree with you on that point.

Tofi, I don't want to ruin your dreams, but let's be realistic, the chances of you going pro are slim. Sorry to bring this up but you made some ridiculous comments about your racket being the reason you lose matches etc. My brother is 14 and a 6.2, he is county champion for 14's and 16's and played 14's Wimbledon in the summer. Does he have a chance at going pro? No.
Seblad2k8
11-23-2008, 10:55 AM
not really but depends who because that kid gets 5 hours training a day and he sucks so there you have it. I do get it but its true theres this guy whos 25th in britain who has played 77 tournys so there you have it.
correction i didn't say he sucks i said he isnt that good for someone who is getting trained that much he is still a good player
(not getting involved in this tho)
wow who's your bro??? also good point. why did we start the argument anyway everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I agree west...

EDIT: then again he good suddenly get alot better in a short space of time no one really ever knows.

I wouldn't entirely agree with that. If your brother put everything he had into tennis, had the backing of the lta & got a bit lucky he could go pro. Alternatively he could leave England now and attend an academy elsewhere and he would have a much higher chance of going pro. Here's a story to explain my opinion on this subject: My brother attended Sanchez-casal for quite a long time and he saw a young 13 year old kid (he was from a small country and his father was part of royalty) that played in the ITF/ATP group! Whereas if this kid was playing in England he wouldn't be half the player he is now; It's just how it is
england should really start building acadamies and things because we used to the best at tennis and now we aren't the lta look like they have enough money to build a few acadamies.

I can see your point. Right now, though its more important to be educated and get some GCSE's. Tennis is a hobby, it's great fun and him and I have both made some fantastic friends and have some great memories. That's what tennis is, not really a career option.
yeah i better start my home work and start thinking about what to pick for GCSE... Man its so hard as we only get to pick 2 things out of 10 and theres loads of things i want to do.

My first matchplays yesterday. Played 2 Won 2!!:):):)Sorry i didnt tell you yesterday, only got in late. I had to wait an hour btween my games! To be fair, my opponents were smaller than i was, but it was the first ever time I had played on those courts. You think there all gonna be the same but there not!
Anyway I was talking to the organiser and he said that you need 8 wins to get into the 9's. But how many to get to 10.1. Already got 2 in the bag. 6 more to go!
1012007
11-24-2008, 08:07 AM
4 to get to 10.1, then another 4 to get to 9.2. After that, you need 7 wins and a 60% winning ratio to move to 9.1 and so on

I've played in Spain and I admit their standards are probably higher than the UK's & that I saw some brilliant players but you must remember we have some brilliant players too.

true i'd only get sponsored if i become pro(which most probably wont happen) or around when 16 years old because thats when racket companies start looking at juniors. this is because then you could pick what matierials and tech and head size and wieght you want etc like vantage. vantage are got but sometimes i think they should put different tech in thier make a racket part.

I really cant believe you could think it actually works, most technology is fake apart from maybe the prince o3 but even they make up a load of crap about it.
cortex works and i know as i tried the APDC before. [K]arophite is aparently graphite but i dont see why 20% of all the [K] rackets composition have kevlar in. not like your gonna get shot on court and you use your kevlar coated racket to deflect bullets. also the new EXO3 prince line is most probabley not effective. maybe i will try the new EXO3 POG when i go to the USA next year and if it works i'll buy it. obviously there wont be nothing in the cortex system its a rubber thing thats on the out side of the racket

No offence but
You think the cortex works because youve tried it but you dont believe that big holes in the grommets would not. Its pretty obvious that having holes in the frame of the racquet would make it more aerodynamic and allow the strings to move more where as a piece of plastic around the throat will work? Why not just put an elastic band around the throat?
no i didnt say they dont work... look at the EXO3 tech vid.... graphite gromets to channel the "energy" into your shots..... doesnt seem that real but i already own an o3 well semi o3 it has holes at 3 and 6 o'clock

Yeah i have. He didnt prove much though as he cut above it, so you couldnt see. It doesnt do much itself, but it separates the racket into two parts, so the vibrations are absorbed by the top part only.

i might make my own racket as a GCSE project. would be pretty cool..... i need to think of an idea. i've got to think about it though..... so hard. i'll draw some blue prints and stuff.

Vantage are really cool. I wanna get a deal with them for Vantage Team, now that would be insanely cool. They have a 4D 300, and a 300 tour. The 300 Tour looks really good specwise and pj wise, might try demo it if I get a chance. Interestingly, ********** has the 4D Super-Lite but nothing else as of yet. I'll ask the owner's son when they're getting the rest in.

Make your own racket? are you serious? What subjct is that? It'll cost loads to make one. 1000+.
not really some graphite and a saw and stuff. might even use the laser cutter aswell. it wont. i think you can make your own racket in reasorceful materials.

how much are you willing to spend? you will need extremely special machines to make a tennis racket. what subject is this for?
i just said the subject is resourceful materials. it wont take that much i dont think its not like 100 rackets its ony 1 racket. and i dont need special equipment to make a racket. a slb of graphite and some metel and stuff isnt expensive plus the school pays for the materials. they msot probabley do have graphite. i'll ask about it in my next tech lesson.

Calm down. I think you need to focus more in your English lessons...
And yes you really do need special machines to make a tennis racket. Think about how a racket is structured, the throat etc. you will need wood aswell. How can you make holes in the plastic without special machinery. And no you cannot just drill. Do some research on how a racket is made.
yeah a drill.... my school has loads of drills and a laser cutter sorry for miss spelling.... i typed it out really fast and didnt check it.

Do you mean Vantage or Dunlop?Didnt think Vantage names their frames?
No offence but
You think the cortex works because youve tried it but you dont believe that big holes in the grommets would not. Its pretty obvious that having holes in the frame of the racquet would make it more aerodynamic and allow the strings to move more where as a piece of plastic around the throat will work? Why not just put an elastic band around the throat?
I was under the impression that although the plastic is on the outside the "tech" of cortex is inside and basically is something they use to dampen vibrations/join two parts of the frame differently.Dont believe the hype if most as you say but some of the stuff works and stays around.
i might make my own racket as a GCSE project. would be pretty cool..... i need to think of an idea. i've got to think about it though..... so hard. i'll draw some blue prints and stuff.
Errr, make one from scratch, its not just a slab of graphite, that wouldn't really work, thats why racquets are "braided" or multiple materials interlaced with one another, stiffness, strength etc.You could make a frame but i doubt it'd be useable speak to your teachers, i'd like to know where you goto school as if you can do it you must have some impressive kit there!
Tofi, did you say you are in Herts?Friend of mine plays in a couple of clubs there (lives in Hereford) which one are you at and whats the club scene like up there?
its obvious what i was thinking. a inch thick slab of grphite and mark out the head length then cut it out round off the edges and drill the holes in. stick the metal bar on with the faomy stuff for the grip and cover up with a replacement grip and give to a stringer to string there. sems simple might be harder and stuff though than i said it. my school is a tech college so we have all the high tech gear for making tech things. i might be able to make one but it wont be that playable i dont think. i live in hertfordshire otherwise known as herts. dave i dont wanna say but my town is a 30 min drive away from centeral london.

You realise you have to:
-Calculate the headsize and shape
-Space the grommet holes perfectly to match a set
-Get the measurements of gripsize correct
-balance it
-Shave off the right amount of graphite to get the weight down
-Put a pallet on the grip
You really have no idea about the specification of a tennis racket do you? Just admit you can't and won't be able to make a tennis racket.
And another thing what does living 30 mins away from Central London have to do with making a racket.

Seb, they are pretty beat up now, holes and chewing gum on them lol. slicekick95, with LTA rating here, you start at 10.2 and go to 10.1 then to 9.2 etc. When you are 10.2 or 10.1 youonly need to win 4 mathces to go down. But when you are 9.2 or better, you have to (i think) win 70% of 15 or 10 matches, i cant remember. Rankings are totally separate from ratings.

7 wins against a player rated higher or the same rating as you and a 60 percent win loss rate against qualifying losses (a player the same or lower than you)

Since you are 10.2, you need to win 4 to get to 10.1. Then another 4 to get to 9.2. After that you need like 65% winning percentage. BTW whats the website for the results on SPOTY

Its amazing for serving, and volleying but I just found it a bit harder to swing on my backhand. I can't wait to get my barricade V's
very off topic i know but i can't wait....
we put up our nets in the summer and leave them there till the end of the year. we also have 1 lunch a week to play just with our year and there is only around 20 that go. we also play in the mornings and break. me and my friends play on fridays after school aswell. the rest of the year the tennis wourts are used for hockey and net ball which sucks... we get 1 hour a week for 6 weeks to play tennis in p.e.
hey guys when are your next tournys and i know you most probabley need to but do you re string your racket before the tourny??

Teamtomo

so does the new head prestige bag
yeah the head prestige bag looks good. i havent tried the k90 coz i dont know anyone that lets you try out rackets so i'm just gonna get it. its got a pretty good review and stuff so might aswell. i know i sound dumb when i say this. i just know and have a feeling that it will be pretty good. i've tried the 6.1 team its pretty good. my coach has 2 six one teams and my friend has a six one team aswell. the six one tour must be 20x better. if you know a place where i can try it out please feel free to tell me.

I think I'm looking for a bit more power and a bit more spin which I think I'm lacking out on a bit with the denser string pattern. The AG 300 is definitely one that I'm seriously looking at, especially as it's being sold quite cheap now.
SaunderS

good. After that you might wanna try the 95 and compare.
yeah. the 95 was ok but i only hit afew shots with it.

Yeah they are. but if you want more power and spin. go for the APDC. Aerostorm is more control.

I tried out an APDC and didn't really like it too much, I felt like I was actually getting less power. People are saying that the main problem with the AG 300 is it's stability, anyone here got any experience with that?
Teamtomo
12-08-2008, 08:49 AM
I have an ag300, and i am thinking of adding some lead tape at 3 and 9 o clock to increase stability. I think it will help for me to plow through the ball instead of swing wildly and out of control which sometimes happens. And yes the ag300 is brilliant in all areas apart from stability, but as i said, a couple of lead tape strips at 3 and 9 will help that. Sometimes i over swing on my groundies due to this problem, causing slight elbow pain (not TE). But yeah, the ag300 is defiantly worth a try.
