View Full Version : Wilson: butt cap change?

I play with a wilson racquet grip size No.5 (4 5/8). Is it possible to change the butt cap with a No.4 (4 4/8) butt cap? Has anyone tried this yet? I like to have the 'end' a little thinner.

I have the same problem w/Wilson. Grip size is fine but the butt cap is too damn big.

Take off the butt cap and make your own with some kind of tape to the size that you want, then put the grip back on.

which manufacturer has smaller butt caps relatively to the grip size?
Prince, Völkl or Babolat? Do you know?

I know that Yonex does. I really like how there is only a slight flare to their butt caps. Well, I recently replaced my one grip with 2 overgrips. It helps alleviate the large butt caps issue, but I may be compromising some comfort (haven't played yet). I guess I'll have to suffer from blisters for a while until the hand toughens up.
One more extreme solution would be to sand down the two side bevels on the cap. I realize this is not exactly fun or precise, but you can also buy new butt caps for a few bucks if you ruin them. I may be doing this at some point. Good luck.

Get yourself a No.4 but cap and sand each face of the handle an equal number of times until the smaller buttcap fits.

be sure to wrap the sandpaper around a small block of wood and use short slow deliberate strokes. take your time
