There is no way this will help. But it will be a ton of fun.

so you mean those Counter Strike top shooters are the world's top commandos?
then we do not need any army any more. What a naive post.

*Predictable joke warning*
make sure you get the heavier wii controller; the lighter one causes tennis elbow.

Only if you use a 16-oz wooden game controller.

lol at thread. Can the controller sense if you're trying to hit a slice or with topspin?

You can put topspin on it with the flick of the wrist...low to high...
I'm not sure it slice is even possible in the game...
I have noticed though even since I played this game, my
strokes have completely gone down the drain. UGH.:(

In a word, no. It absolutely will not help. Instead of blowing $300 or whatever that thing cost, you should have used the money to pay for lessons from a pro.

Make sure you stack on the lead tape on those controllers, they're light and stiff.
katastrof

Yes, it will make you worse. Especially if the control tries to simulate a racquet grip.

Roger Fedrer trains on the Wii now. He says it increases his reflexes and trains his wrist action for his shots (like you say for the top spin).
I think it can defently help your game.

You could always remove the sensor bar and play with a normal tennis racquet. Its a bit laggy but still works!

NO!
As a beginner, you must start with light-weight titanium controllers!
You will give up on your Wii if you start with a player's controller that's too demanding!
Didn't your mother ever tell you that playing with your wii could make you blind?

Actually he has been training on the Wii for a while now. Sources tell me Federer's access to the Wii started at around the same time his dominance of tennis started. Now that it is out, Federer must be quaking in his boots. :)

Training on the wii to improve your strokes is stupid. You should focus on footwork when you use it. ;)
Lets face it, everyone here is goign to get pissed and hate the game when they lose to someone who is just sitting on the coach flicking their wrist. Or when you realize you cant serve and volley since you dont controll the movement of your guy/gal.

Helps with strategy.
That is if you are actually focusing on the tennis part and not the game part.
Works for me at least.

I played on the wii yesterday, it's alot of fun!!!!
For the strokes, lol no, it won't help you. I believe I somewhat managed to put topspin on the ball. Anyways, it doesn't really matter, it's a ton of fun and definetly worth the price.
RedSteel was also fun but if it were a regular controller it would have been plain. The new wii controller makes everything much more intense and amusing!

No, you cannot hit slice shots, unfortunately. If you swing from L to H, it's a topspin moonball. If you swing H to L, it's still a topsin ball that is just flattened out more. You also get more pace if you just flick your wrist and don't move your arm much. It's a good start, though. And I'm sure better tennis games are to come.:-D

I've found if I lead mine up at 3 and 9 with 1" strips it helps with stability at the net. I've also found a rubberband on it helps with the "twang".

That depends if your wife is left handed, so you guys can get into a forehand-backhand exchange to practice your reflexes.

Hmm how about.
Take ur Wii to a room with heaps of space
Tape ur Wii controller to the dead center of ur REAL racket (ON Strings)
I guess that could work

Can you recommend a string setup that gives the best playability in this case?

I dont know if I should reply here :) is this a serious topic from the op...if you want to improve your game at home there is 2 options. Forget wii btw!
1.)Empty swings(shadow swings) in front of mirror.
2.)Buy a tennis foam ball, you can hit it inside your home to a wall(It doesnt make noise). You might want to use a table so you dont let the ball drop to the floor from the wall. This will get you hitting the ball higher in a small space. So hit the ball to wall, then let it drop to table and then from the bounce hit it back to the wall. Its like Forrest Gump hitting ping pong :D This is good for hand eye coordination if you try to maintain a fast paced rally hitting topspin. Its not easy and you need to use the body to maintain stable rhythm. I told my little sister to do this for 2weeks everyday for 15mins. After that she was comfortable with the racquet and she had better touch to the ball. But it wont make you the next Federer.

Replace the handle on your racquet with the controller. If that doesn't make you better you are probably better than Federer.
