I have pretty much narrowed it down to these stringing machines...
-Klippermate
-Gamma X-2
-Laserfibre MS200 ECO
Does Technifibre make an entry-level machine equal to one of these?
What's your opinion of these? Which would you recommend I get, if any?

Don't forget the Alpha String Pal...linear string gripper that the others don't have, and Alpha provides great pre- and post-sales service.

What the heck's a "linear string gripper?" Is it really that important?

With most of the dropweight machines, you wind the free end of the string around a drum and then into the gripper that's are cut into the drum, so the string makes a right angle at that point, which puts a bit of a kink in stiffer strings like polys. I have a Silent Partner Swing that does this, but haven't noticed a problem with the kinking -- the string straightens out OK when it's stretched under tension. A linear gripper avoids the problem altogether by pulling the string more or less in a straight path without putting in that kink.

I have had an AG 602F TABLE MODEL from Guterman International for close to 12 years and it also has a linear gripper that never slipped or damaged strings. I have not tried others but this one gives me what I need in a stringer for my son and I.

I've not noticed any kinking of polys on my Klippermate which uses 2 gripper jaws, although I've nearly taken my eye out with poly when threading crosses!!
