After watching the demise of American tennis since the early 80's and reading miscellaneous articles in Tennis magazine, etc. regarding the Universities selling out and giving most scholarships to foreign players, you tell me if I'm over-reacting:

A local tennis coach has been going to Norway (and maybe some other counties abroad) trying to sell American tennis to young school kids so they can come to America to study and play tennis. Overall, good for the game, but what about selling the game to American kids? He's probably getting paid by the Universities to recruit the better players from over there so that they go to our Universities and help them will their respective divisions.

On the surface, it may seem like a good thing, but some think NAFTA was a good thing. Next thing you know, the US becomes less competitive as jobs and industry goes to Mexico, and now to India and China. Same for tennis. Foreign players dominate the NCAA and American tennis goes down the toilet.

I know that there are other contributing factors to American tennis going downhill, but couldn't we control some of this? Some of the foreign players' histories are hard to follow and many actually have some pro tournament experience.

Any thoughts?
