Anyone watch them or own them? I have the set, and i have learned so much from them. Just wondering if anyone has liked or hated them.

Got 'em. Good and solid, but not exceptional. I haven't seen anything on DVD yet that rivals the best internet sites. This is all predicated on one's own background and need. The sites are timely and look for commonalities which I appreciate and feel are most applicable from level to level. DVD's are good but unless one has a solid understanding of the game and its terminology I haven't found a "one size that fits all" yet, if that is even possible. I own, Jensen's, Bollitieri's and Wegner's series and truly believe that the sites are superior. If putting one sheckles down my own bias would be aimed at private lessons with a good "hands-on" teaching pro and tennisplayer.net but you be your own judge.

I viewed probably 6-7 of them. They are good for beginners and low level intermediates. His faults and fixes DVD seems strikingly similar to Avery's Consistent tennis wins (the original version). His singles strategy video is a complete waste of time.

There is really nothing in them that is not covered somewhere on the internet. I would prefer a hands on coach, but I have struck out with a couple of dud instructors so far.

but I have struck out with a couple of dud instructors so far.

ive had that same problem, thats why my dad got these for me as my christmas gift, he wants me to be my own coach, and he's my coach too, lol.

i like these dvds so far (ive only seen the forehand one so far), because it goes over the pure basics, most of which i have, but sometimes there's little tid-bits of information that when you apply them, go a long way. its a matter of getting them all together. so i watch videos of myself to compare, find little spots to improve on, and so far, im improving much better with videos on the internet and dvds than i did with "coaches" for a long time. i guess if you find a good coach, then you're lucky, but they ALL want to steal your money, lol (at least in mine and my dad's experience).

my other favourite video to watch is this one on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNPaZj4yn00 -federer's strokes in slow motion.

the internet, dvds, and books (like The Scienc and Art of Tennis by Julio Yacub) are a lot LOT more useful than coaches, especially when you can watch yourself with a camcorder.

just my $0.02

edit: i forgot to add, that the internet is awesome too, just like you guys mention, i just find the dvd's more down to the basics and nicer quality obviously.

If you don't want to play competitively, the dvds are ok. It you want to play competitively, those DVDs are pretty much a joke.

hahaha, you're a funny guy. learning to hit a proper stroke is joke eh? are you playing competetively with monkeys or something? or competetively in a 1.0 league? im interested to know your definition of "competetive". i compete in my province, against people from all over my province, is that playing competetively ?

wow

i dont know man... but i thought that to play competetively, you better know how to hit proper strokes... (i'll agree that sometimes the dvd's go over things that are quite simple, but still, it goes over stuff that you probably dont know). But i would like to play YOU sometime, see how COMPETETIVE you are.

Sorry, dude. I missed the post that it's a christmas gift. By "competitive", I mean over 4.0+ level. I watched some of the DVDs, but not all of them. Some of the drills are good, e.g the overhead drill against the wall.

I don't know why one would want to learn the basic technic instead of going straight for pro technic. IMHO, tennis websites are by far the best bet.

thats ok, but can you please elaborate on what you mean by "I don't know why one would want to learn the basic technic instead of going straight for pro technic"? I don't understand that. Like, what i do is i watch myself, then the dvd, make sure i have the basics right, but i dont copy everything from the dvd, because i have my own preferences too, but i have to have the basic foundations for each stroke, like shoulder rotation, trunk rotation on a forehand for example.

Compared to pro technique, what ive seen on james jensen's forehand video is basically the same as the technique for some pro's. But i personally like to look at federer's strokes more than any other pro's, because my game is most similar to his (though i cant do it nearly as well as him... yet ;)). I try and see what makes federer's forehand unique, and try out some of those parts and incorporate the parts i like into my own forehand.

My point is, i still believe that these DVD's are a great sort of "checklist" to make sure you're doing everything right. If you are doing ABOSOLUTELY EVERYTHING right for EVERY STROKE, you should probably be about a 6.0, you'd basically be a pro (unless you're really old or something, i dont know). and obviously, not everyone is at a 6.0 or above level, so therefore, there is something from these dvd's you can learn.

but i do like tennis websites, but youtube is good too

no, but i put it on my christmas wish list. NOT! I'd be interested in reading it though. How is it so far. (this is such a great thread hi-jack)

i mentioned jenna jameson last night and a friend said she's the first female porn star to be a billionaire.

that's some pretty lucrative moaning if you ask me.

One of the strengths of the Jensen DVDs is his demonstration of backboard drills. On those days you can't find a partner, try the drills that he shows. They are great!
