i was wondering if any of you can compare these strings based on power, pocketing, durability, tension maintenance and spin potential.

of course, none of these strings are as good as gut, but which of these are really close?

are there any other strings would like to add to this list?

by the way, this decision is for my prokennex redondo mid at roughly 68-70 lbs.

i currently have it strung with biphase 18g at 68

Gamma Live Wire is also a good choice.

I'd say Klip Excellerator definitely pockets the ball moreso than X-One Biphase.

My question is: has anyone who voted actually tried ALL of these strings?

If not, then how can you pick one over the others?

Out of those I've only tried two. The Yonex and the Alpha Gut. Both were very nice. The Alpha Gut was one of the best I've tried, but I would not use it because you can pop it in an hour or two. I played 3 sets I think and busted 4 mains. Loved it until then.

The Yonex is one of the best 16g multi's I've tried. Very nice pocket at lowish tension, but it still doesn't move a lot, and doesn't get all that bouncy at low tension like some multis can.

kevo, what tensions did you string both strings at? like i mentioned in my OP i was thinking about stringing them at around 68, 70 lbs

i played with biphase today, and it felt like the tension fropped 5 lbs. just too much power. i probably have 8 to 12 hours on it, and the tension dropped way to quickly for me. do any of these strings have have better tension maintenance?

Gamma Livewire had better tension maintenance for me, but I didn't like the feel as much as Klip Excellerator (what I used most) and X-1 Biphase.

Alpha Sphere is excellent pocketing multi...not as much experience w/it longer term (cut it out when I switched to gut) but liked the Alpha Sphere very much while I was using it.

These are multi I have tried. In order of the best to worst. Considering pocketing, arm friendly, and durability.
1. Wilson NXT Tour 17 & 16 - Volkl Tour 10 MP
2. Wilson NXT 16 & 17 - Pk Redondo MID, Volkl Tour 10 MP
2. Gamma Live Wire 16 & 17 - Volkl Tour 10 Mid
3. Yonex Tour 850 16L - PK Redondo MID
4. Gamma Live Wire Revelation 17 - PK Redondo MID I would consider this the best price string.
5. Gamma ESP 16 & 17 - Wilson Krammer Millenium, Fischer Pro No 1
6. Babolat XCEL - Volkl Tour 10 MP
7. Ashaway Dynamite 17 - Volkl Tour 10 Mid it like hitting with kevlar need to drop atleast 5-8lbs
8. Klip Excellator Hybrid 16 w/prince sythentic gut 16 - Volkl Tour 10 MP GEN
9. Prince Premier Softflex 16- Volkl Tour 10 MP Felt like mush

I think the NXT tour comes closest to Natural Gut interms of feel and pocketing. I used natural gut on my Volkl Tour 10 MP. The Gamma Live Wire felt the best on the first hit but durability was an issue.

I have some Gamma Live Wire Professional but I 'm not motive to restring my rackets yet

Squid, I'm guessing you are stringing on a lock out machine using high tensions on a mid. The highest I could go with any string on my RDX mid was 62lbs. except for gut. Most of the time I was at 60/57. I strung on a drop weight. With a lockout, if you string too fast you will get a lot of lost tension in the first 2-3 hours of play. I hated X-one at 60lbs. btw. It seemed a little stiffer than it should have felt, but it still had tons of power. That was the 16g though, not the 18. I found the Yonex 850 Pro played well at a variety of tensions from 50 - 60lbs. Very predictable string and it doesn't move around a lot either. The Alpha gut I played at 57lbs. I believe, and it was great for a few hours until it broke.

ssjkyle31, from your experience, the tension/playability maintenance and durability of NXT tour was less than Natural Gut, right? If so, by how many hours would you estimate?

What Natural Gut were you referring to?

well kevo, i use a drop weight at home, but i am plannign to get a job at a sports store where i can use the babolat ace. or something like that. and i would string at somthing around 68. you think yonex 850 pro would play well around there?

I can't imagine it playing well at 68lbs., but I really can't imagine any string playing well at 68lbs. I found 60lbs. to be the tipping point for me with the Yonex strings. But if that's what you normally string at, you might just like it that way. You might want to get two sets so you can plan on a second stringing after the first. That way if it feels a bit boardy at 68lbs. you can drop it down a few pounds with the second set.

Vs . Your durability may be different from my durability. i tend to hit a flat ball most of the time. NXT tour last as long as my natural gut, about 16 to 20 hours per racket. IMHO, NXT Tour played better before it broke but natural gut played consistent until it broke. Also you might want to note, most of my racket have tight pattern with the exception of the kramers.

My vote for other is laserfibre supernatural prostock for my vote, (but have not seen or used it in 18 guage). It has a very gut like feel for me. Closely followed by biophase then NXT (a very close second and third).
