One thing I've noticed in watching professional players' strokes is that it seems as if their entire body is going into each stroke, whereas with lower players it may only be a small percentage (a single side, just the arm, maybe some torso).

Has their ever been an actual analysis of total muscle usage in the pros? As in, hooking professionals up to a computer to capture all the muscle contractions and such. I would actually like to see some computer data displaying how many muscles are being used for a professional player's stroke versus that of a leisure/recreational player.

Of course we all know that we need to get our entire body into a stroke, but how effective are we really at doing that?

On average? Not very. Federer is a prime example though, I think, of how to get as much mass as possible into a forehand. I don't think anyone launches themselves into a shot better than he does with that particular stroke.
