I am new to this talk of how people are "sandbagging" in tournaments. What is sandbagging?

I think it's when people over rate or under rate themselves to make the tournaments blah and stuff. But then I'm not 100% sure.

Generally speaking, in the context of league and tournament tennis, sandbagging is the descriptive name for the act of a player playing below their real capability (usually winning matches, but by closer margins than theyreally should be) . . . with the objective of keeping their tennis rating at a (lower) level where they are more likely to win. To me, it's despicable!

In juniors, it is also when a player should be playing up a division but continues to play at a lower division so that they can obtain the hardware.
