Its all better now though and HS season is starting but i dont think ill see your team, we're in a different conference. i am planning to play a level 7 tourny at Nashua in a couple weeks (April 4th?) so maybe ill see you there if you play.
I havent really looked at the rankings in a while but have you been playin much? Oh and if you ever want to play some dubs in a tourny just PM me like a couple days before registration cuz that'd be sick.

Hey I was just wondering if anyone played any USTA tournaments in CT, or like pond view rhode island.
Also i was wondering what occured, if someone signed up for a tournmant, and there was only 4 total, would they just start at semi finals?, and would the four people get any points automatically?
brayman9
12-05-2008, 05:58 PM
ya you would start in the semis. and yes i have played at pond view and the ne hard courts in conn every year
I lost today in my first USTA tournament =(. Level 7 vs 50 in NE, 6-4 6-2, it was fun playing though as I'm just getting used to it. Also found out what I need to work on :D(cough backhand cough*

Thanks for replying, I live in CT, so Pond View is just about the only USTA tournament in RI close enough for me, and they rarely have any. Brayman have you ever played at Lyme Shores or Guilford? and by the way I saw that mike mulroy kid you were talking about earlier in the thread, and your right he stinks.

no i havn't played at either of those clubs. I will have at least a 2 and half hour ride to play any conn tournament so i usually avoid them. I havn't seen michael mulroy play in like 1 year now so im not sure. But he isn't even playing tournaments.
no u always have to win at least one match to get points its just lucky because u could play 5 matches and get to the finals or 1 and u get the same number of points.

I've played in Guilford. The tournaments are fun and the tournament director, Chris, is really nice. Definetly play there.

Competition varies, I'm doing the tournament your doing, but the 18s, what are you doing. Level 7s, like this one, are easier and light competition while their 6s are pretty tough. I think the courts are slow, but I usually play on really fast ones. They are probably average. Good luck at it and I might see you there!

Jane remeber or somethin. Ya I am playing in the 16s one, i hoping that there isnt a lot of competition, since its my first time, do you know how good the competition is for 16s like any players that usually show up that i should look out for like roode? and thanks for lettin me know about the courts hopefully i'll see you there too, do you know what time it gererally starts on monday?

16s shouldn't be too hard. I;m 16, but since the competition is usually weak, I;m playing up. I don't know what time it starts because Chris always changes it. I can't think of too many players that will give you trouble, I'll write back here or start a different thread or something and tell you about the players I know who signed up.

Brandon Roode, and he just won the hs ECC states as a freshman this past year, he goes to guilford high school, and hes 9th in CT, 23 in New England

i havent played at indoor guilford in about 2 years, but unless they havent re-surfaced, those courts were pretty quick. i wouldnt change your gamestyle, but be prepared for faster and quicker points.

And so basically for me to get any points, and have any chance at ever getting a ranking, it doesnt matter on how many tournaments i play, but how many rounds i win?
So it doesn't matter what tournament? Just which round you reach?
Does beating people with better rankings give more points?

I'm not sure for USTA rankings, but i know for tennisrecruiting.net, beating better people gives you a better ranking, and losing to people with worst ranking than you, can lose you ranking.

Alright. So what does it take to be allowed into a level 5 tournamnet, (New England)? like do you have to play a certain number of tournaments, or have a certain rank, because it said that "Entry to this tournament is open to specified residents only." SO what allows me to become a specifiied resident?

I don't think it is that selective for L5. I am playing one this Friday, and I am unranked, but I assume the reason I was let in was I played fairly well against someone who was decently ranked.
And I think what you meant to say was,
"Players are selected manually by the tournament director after the close of registration."

anyone can be let in you were not let in because of playing well against that kid. The only thing directors look at is your usta new england ranking in that age division to determine seeds and who is going to get in. Simply if the tournament is taking 32 players and you have the 33 best ranking you will be first alternate no matter what you did the week before or against anyone else. Hope that clears things up for you.

actually, it doesnt matter who you play, its just a set points per round system. Im surprised you got into a level 5, probably not enough people to fill the draw because its usually top players who play those. anyway, usta is nothing like the tennis recruiting system where it matters who you beat

usta is changing all the ranking points for each tournament for 2009 so the points awarded will be slightly different then those in 2008. a level 6 is worth 300 in 09 while it was 400 previously

Yeah, I don't really like the USTA system with the points. It's kinda like just the more tournaments u enter (more you pay), the higher chance u will have a better rank, rather than actually based on skill. I know it's not a huge difference, but still.

i havent played at indoor guilford in about 2 years, but unless they havent re-surfaced, those courts were pretty quick. i wouldnt change your gamestyle, but be prepared for faster and quicker points.
the tournament director, chris, is probably the coolest guy in all of new england. tell him i said hi.

T1000

^^^^^^^ depends on the school. our coach makes us tell him if we are planning on a tourny and he tells us if its ok depending on level, size, if we have a match, andif we do, who we're playing. i don't think there is a set in stone rule regarding this issue. best speak to your coach about it

i didn't think those courts were fast, pretty slow if you ask me. I play at grande meadows sometimes and those courts are nice. fast and the ball stays low to the ground. your gonna love the outdoor season cuz i think there are four clay tournys, one big one in beverly, MA. when trumbull racquet club starts having tournys in may you should do those. The courts are really slow there

it sucks that there arent that many clay tournaments in the northeast. ive talked to kids in florida and a good 75% of the tournaments played there are on clay. i think that theres only 3, two at nashua and the level 5. the lv5 isnt that strong for a level 5 considering most of the top players are at national clays during that week. but yes, clay courts are the best :)

eh hes ok. he only won 18s sectionals and beat marc powers in the finals, then like 2 weeks later beat powers again at a national open ;)
yea but last time i played christo it was somewhat close, and on a really fast court, which doesnt suit my game at all. hopefully i can do more damage this time.
but first i gotta focus on boguslawski.
boguslawski looks good also, hes ranked 22 in the 18s, and what type of courts are at longfellow, are they fast or slow?

they used to be fast, but they resurfaced them and they are slower now.

o, i assume thats good for your playing style considering you said"i had a close match even though the courts were fast". so hopefully with these slower courts you be able to play your best and have a close match with schultz

tough draw, iv heard schultz is a very good lefty serve and volleyer
I saw christo play with tommy darling yesterday he looks really good and i am going to Manchester this weekend if anyone else is.

Then you must simply find a way to ruin his mental game. Go in wearing a huge rainbow afro wig or something.
