Hey i was just seeing which people are from around where i live. Im from the south shore and i'm starting usta tournaments soon. Could someone give me some advice about playing in junior tournaments around here? thanks!!:D

brayman9

i live about 30 minutes from the cape in DUxbury,MA

Alex_Chin

My advice is not to wait for tournaments to come to you but for you to go to them. Nashua has one almost every weekend. Doubles tournaments count towards singles points and no one really plays in those so go for those. Um, Level 6's give you way more points (if you win a Level 7, you get about the same # of points for getting to the Quarters in a Level 6). New England only takes your 8 highest scores, too, so be aware.

300Gkid
01-29-2007, 01:55 PM
yea, definitley play as many tournaments as possible i play in t he 14's and regularly beat people ranked higher than me because i've only played 4 tournys

BTW i think the doubles counting towards singles only counts starting next year?, or maybe it did start this year, can someone clear this up?

i live in Chelmsford, MA

brayman9

Also a place called centre court tennis club in providence Rhode Island has one almost every week also

FEDEX1
01-29-2007, 04:26 PM
Alex Chin do you mean Nashua NH?

FEDEX1
01-29-2007, 04:49 PM
i also would like to know if level 6 tournaments are harder then level 7 tournaments

brayman9
01-29-2007, 05:20 PM
yes they are much harder i get seeded in every level 7 and the 6's i probly will play a seed. They are much harder

Alex_Chin
01-29-2007, 05:21 PM
Yeah, I did mean Nashua, New Hampshire. Nashua actually draws a lot of good players by the way. Level 6 tournaments are supposedly more competitive than Level 7 tournaments (they offer more points as well). Occasionally in a level 7 tournament, there will be a no namer who will be surprisingly decent and should be playing level 6. As for level 6's, many of the same kids will appear in the draw tournament, after tournment. But for what its worth, I recommend level 6's.

300Gkid
01-29-2007, 05:26 PM
yea i have found Nashua to be a much tougher place to play than others because it holds a tournament every weekend, its a nice place and because of these things, is very popular. You can find other tournaments in places like Vermont and Maine or even other places in MA whose which level 6's have less people and are less competitive than Nashua's level 7's. The other places level 7's are even better, i've had draws of 16 or less before

FEDEX1
01-30-2007, 02:26 PM
do u get any a trophy or anything if u win a usta tournament?

300Gkid
01-30-2007, 02:43 PM
yea, nashua gives out trophies

FEDEX1
01-30-2007, 03:25 PM

well a lot of places have a few but Riverside, Rhode Island has alot and South Londonberry, Vermont. But thats far

Alex_Chin
01-31-2007, 11:31 AM
You can check online. I would post the link, but the USTA site is down right now. To find the tournaments, you go to the juniors section, and then to the schedule section and enter New England and like your age division. They stopped sending the books with all the tournaments in it, too.

Alex_Chin
02-01-2007, 12:55 PM
those courts are wicked fast. so slice 'em low!

brayman9
02-01-2007, 04:52 PM
those courts are the weirdest hard courts you will ever play

FEDEX1
02-01-2007, 05:41 PM
if you guys have ever played at the YMCA in hanovover, are the courts anything like this? and also im really obsesed with getting trophies, do u get one if u win this (i know i wont win tho only my first tournament)?

Alex_Chin
02-02-2007, 07:58 PM
Yeah Brayman9 and I are the top juniors at the Hanover Y. The courts in Lakeville are much faster than the Y courts.

FEDEX1
02-03-2007, 03:24 PM
o ok. I do one of those junior team tennis things at the Y, i'm not sure who to talk to though to get myself onto the bracket thing. If u guys are on it who did u talk to to get on it.

Alex_Chin
02-04-2007, 08:28 AM
you talk to chris d or margaret chase.

brayman9
02-04-2007, 03:56 PM
the y is awesome i showed that new kid who is on top in the juniors. brayden def. robert 6-2

FEDEX1
02-05-2007, 05:05 PM
would it be a good idea to start out playing a serve and volley style of play at the lakeville tournament?

brayman9
02-06-2007, 05:19 PM
not unless you are really good at it it just plays like a fast hard court not grass though. Just take advantage of the warm up and get the feal of it. See if you can come before then and hit on them.

FEDEX1
02-07-2007, 10:22 AM
ya ok thanks. im not much of a serve a volleyer. I have a high percentage serve but i just put a lot of spin on it, its not that fast. And i always get passed when i come up to net

Alex_Chin
02-07-2007, 03:54 PM
hit lots of slices and lots of lobs, they won't know what to expect and you'll certainly take them out of rythym.

brayman9
02-07-2007, 04:10 PM
yes slices good definetly stay away from net if u are not good

FEDEX1
02-08-2007, 04:41 PM
ya when i was playing at the Y today i was workin on my slice it seems really good but i still have to see how it goes on a faster court.

brayman9
02-08-2007, 05:40 PM
i was at the Y today working in the pro shop

brayman9
02-08-2007, 05:41 PM

i hate the tennis courts at the lakeville tennis club. The guy who i faced had a good first flat serve and it just skided off the court. I wish i had played in the tournament in Dorchester.

Alex_Chin
02-20-2007, 01:18 PM
haha i played in dorchester...pretty scrubby club, the courts are uneven there and the bounce surprises u occasionally.

300Gkid
02-21-2007, 05:10 PM
Ok, i was wondering if any of you guys have any info on these particular players..., how they play, strengths weaknesses ect..

Raghav D. Tanna

FEDEX1

I suggest checking out the tournaments in Nashua. I live in Nashua and my son ( 8 ) played his first tennis tournament there and will be playing another one soon. They have tournaments almost every weekend.

Alex_Chin
02-28-2007, 11:55 AM
Our spring seasons starts March 22. I'm pretty sure everyone else starts around then, too. (around the South Shore)

brayman9

I think I will play singles in Easton to there are like only 6 people signed up right now. Even though it is 16's. I will be a sleeper and they won't know. HEHEHE!

Sleepers are soooooo annoying. We better win doubles! There's like only one other team. We need to hit sometime this week. :-D

brayman9
03-05-2007, 01:39 PM
i can't play singles my parents won't let me. There are 4 doubles teams and one team i know really good. Hansen, Baines. I know those kids really good. HAnson has beat me in three finals. But baines is not that good.

03-05-2007, 06:17 PM
Anybody know Eric J. Hoffman? B18, 50 in New England. Looking foward to this challenge.

brayman9
03-06-2007, 03:08 PM
No none of the kids that have been talking in this thread are over 16. I don't know him maybe someone else does.

Alex_Chin
03-07-2007, 09:19 AM
haha i know him...he's kinda streaky i think but he's never that bad.

Puredrivetennis
03-07-2007, 09:27 AM

haha i know him...he's kinda streaky i think but he's never that bad.

Could you be more specific? Is he a power hitter? Is he fast? How's his serve? I play him this Saturday, so any info would be very helpful.

You were referring to Hoffman, right?

Alex_Chin
03-07-2007, 02:44 PM
Could you be more specific? Is he a power hitter? Is he fast? How's his serve? I play him this Saturday, so any info would be very helpful.

You were referring to Hoffman, right?

Yeah I was referring to him. He only plays USTA to get into college. And umm I don't really remember b/c I saw him this summer. Pretty sure he's an all-courter but don't take my word. He has a 2 handed backhand I think. He's not much of a power player I don't think. I think he's on the faster side cuz he's more so slim than stout. Idk about the serve, sorry. Ha I'm sooo useless --that was so useless. Good luck though.

zzzbrianxxx
03-07-2007, 03:34 PM
hey man, ANY information is helpful.

I'm just ready to pee my pants cause this kid absolutely smoked the #2 singles player on my team. I can compete with our #2, but not really beat him. Obviously he has game. But if he's not a real power hitter, than the game will be mine to win.

ANY other kind of information you can give me would help a lot.

What NTRP are you, cause that affects how good you think he is.

Also, what do you mean he does the USTA to get into college? As an extra curricular activity, or is he planning on playing tennis on college? cause that would scare me even more.

brayman9
03-07-2007, 04:57 PM
my parents won't let me play becasue they can't drive on friday when the singles would start. :(

Alex_Chin
03-08-2007, 06:05 PM
Haha umm...I don't know what my "NTRP rating" is but i'm ranked 29 in New England for boys' 16's and play first singles for Hingham High School (we're not that good all the same). What school do you play for? And for the college thing, it is a very common thing you will see that more kids will appear in B16's 18's because it is the best thing you can do towards college regarding tennis. It is more impressive to say you are ranked in USTA than just an experienced high school player. It shows your competitive edge and determination to do well and take tennis seriously. The reason why I said he's doin it for college is cuz I saw him at Stonehill College talking to the tennis coach and watching their tournament.

zzzbrianxxx
03-09-2007, 12:20 PM
well yes, that's a given. I just thought you meant he was shooting for a D1 scholarship or something like that. I play for Dover Sherborn High School. 29 is a very solid ranking...

Alex_Chin
03-09-2007, 12:50 PM
well yes, that's a given. I just thought you meant he was shooting for a D1 scholarship or something like that. I play for Dover Sherborn High School. 29 is a very solid ranking...

Wait is Nate Saletan you're 1st singles...cuz I would say Eric Hoffman would probably destroy him.

zzzbrianxxx
03-10-2007, 10:18 AM
.............nate's our 3rd singles

zzzbrianxxx
03-10-2007, 10:18 AM
but saletan is mostly a pusher, so it doesn't worry me THAT much. but the fact that he beat our #2 just as easily does.

zzzbrianxxx
03-10-2007, 05:13 PM
yea that sucked. Not only was he good, but I didn't realize I had gotten my forehand tried from bowling the night before (lol + I'm stupid) so I was pretty tired to begin with. I felt like I couldn't move, but I'm sure I wouldn't have beaten him anyways.

brayman9
03-11-2007, 06:44 AM
Well me and ALex pulled off a three set doubles win last night if that makes you feal any better. ANd now we play in the finnals. :p

300Gkid
03-11-2007, 07:15 AM
sweet, nice win brayden, how are the courts at Easton? I'm debating playing a level 6 there next week, i'll prolly get blown out but its my last until HS tennis starts so i figured what the hell, why not. lol, maybe i'll get a default win or something :D

anyway, good luck

brayman9
03-11-2007, 07:44 AM
play there i am. It is in the absolute middle of nowhere. U drive on like dirt roads to get there. THere are only three courts right now (hard) they are underconstrution. But they are very fast but it is a cool place. Play the 6 next week.

brayman9
03-11-2007, 07:45 AM
you won't get blown out if you play like you did when you won the three setter in Nashua

300Gkid
03-12-2007, 11:11 AM

brayman9
03-17-2007, 05:49 PM

FEDEX1

brayman9
05-21-2007, 04:42 PM

Matt_MS

What's "with a one hander" supposed to mean? Are you trying to say that's a disadvantage?

300Gkid
05-21-2007, 05:27 PM
lol Matt, at this point where he's only 5 foot and probably not that big it probably is a disadvantage at this level but when he's bigger/older it will probably be an advantage

You guys no offense but New England is a weak section. I'm from the East and I'm ranked not very well, and I played a kid from New England in the first round of a tournament who is ranked like in the thirty's and beat him I think like 2 and 2. Then I played a kid who is top ten in New England in lost in three sets.

Then another kid who is ranked like 60 in the East, beat the kid ranked in like the thirtys 3 and 3. I just can't figure out why there's a gap in between these two sections.

Grosvenor O'neil in the first round. Any advice?

300Gkid
06-11-2007, 05:53 PM
lol i should be asking you that, i'd say you got a sick draw compared to mine as i drew Callan Louis first round probably because i've played like 4 tournys and have a lower rank although i like to think i could be top 50 as i beat J. Kraiger in 3 sets a while ago and i've never heard of that guy before although he looks decent

this is AWFUL i didn't get drawn for sectionals but they draw kids below me. I am an alternate but who pulls out of sectionals

300Gkid
06-13-2007, 05:59 PM
brayden, really? then i have absolutley horrible luck drawing Thompson last time and now Louis :-(

dude that sucks about sectionals, i thought they had to do it by rankings?
but anyways i bet some kids will pull out cuz of the travel

i cant believe they took Kraiger over you, i beat that kid in 3 sets

brayman9
06-15-2007, 06:39 PM
Krairger (sp) is a fat load that has a losing record and no busience in sectionals

NebAce1
06-15-2007, 06:46 PM
Don't sweat it, aren't there more sectionals?

300Gkid
06-16-2007, 01:31 AM
lol he was actually a pretty nice kid when i played him although shouldnt be playing sectionals

Anyway, i hate to make excuses before i even play but i was a moron and decided to restring my racquets right before the tournament, lol and all of a sudden string started snapping on me. So now i am using my back-up with like 2 month old poly strings. lol, i'll be lucky to get out of there with both arms intact ;)

300Gkid
06-16-2007, 11:27 AM
lol yep just as i suspected, played absolutley horribly arm started throbbing in the 2nd set. Too bad because he didnt seem all that good (very consistent not much power) and that could have been my chance to pull a decent upset or have a close match at the very least. Instead, although there were a lot of close games i could never pull it together and lost 6-1 6-0

However, i was watching the rest of the kids on my courts and seriously wishing i had drawn one of them, i am pretty sure i could have beaten most if not all of them

brayman9
06-16-2007, 03:38 PM
