"Tennis -- along with bowling and darts, the sport where overweight, over-the-hill, bald men with no athletic ability prevail.

Young? Fit? Want to have fun? Then maybe league tennis is for you!

Or maybe not. Because your fitness and strokes will get you nowhere playing doubles against a bunch of decrepit hacks who've been chopping it in for decades!

You'll pay your dues, set aside your evenings, buy the gear, eat right, train, drive across town, pay another court fee, and what for? To watch spin serves from a 120 square inch, 8.5 oz racquet hook off the court into the indoor court divider, on which you'll probably sprain your ankle.

League Tennis! Check it out. Or not. Probably have more fun playing with friends outdoors in the summer."

Brought to you by the USTA.

Sorry, had to squeeze out the sour grapes.

Or maybe you're not as fit and good as you think you are.

-Why not play singles for your league team?

-Serve hooking into the divider? - Step up to get to the serve earlier and kill it cross court.

-If you just got beat by a "a bunch of decrepit hacks who've been chopping it in for decades!" then you aren't much better than the players that your are insulting. Maybe your fitness and strokes aren't as good as you think they are.

-Want some cheese with that whine?

What level do you play? If you're whining about playing 3.0 singles or 6.0 doubles, step up and improve your own game so you don't have to play those people.

The only reason you'd whine about it would be because these "fat, out of shape hackers with the 120 sq in racquets" are beating on you.

I don't understand. Your mad at USTA for getting beat by old men?

The game would be so much more accessible if only everyone already playing played like Sampras and was forced to use wooden racquets....

....or maybe it wouldn't.

Gugafan- maybe you can petition your league to change the rules for you so that when you hit the ball as hard as you can into the middle of the net it still counts as in.
