Hey guys, I have a teenage son who keeps getting a blister at the bottom of his palm, not where the butt of the racket hits, but up in the flat part. I am old school and use a continental grip and he uses a western. Is that causing it? He is using a 4 3/8 grip. What do you guys think?

Don't think it's the Western grip. Plenty of people use a Western grip and don't get blisters.

When was the last time he changed the grip/over grip on his racket? An old grip/over grip could be too slippery and cause the blister. Maybe try differents overgrips. I like gamma hi-tech. Others swear on tourna-grip.

Also, if he's a growing boy, double check to see if his 4 3/8 grip is too small for his hand.

Thanks JRstriker12, that makes sense.

Either the grip is too small, he's not used to playing (maybe he took a long break and came back and played a lot of tennis) or maybe he needs a new replacement grip/overgrip.

I've suffered hardcore from blisters on my palm this season- 3 already! I'm not sure what's causing it in your son's case, but I do reccomend New-Skin. It's a liquid bandage that you cover the blister with and let it dry. Put on a few layers, and it's actually bearable to hold the racquet again. The stuff does peel off, but it's a good buffer while it lasts.

I also have a friend who raves about N-S, saying it allowed him to play with a blister as big as a quarter...My friend also likes to hit the bottle, but it sounds like good stuff.
