yea, a simple color change away from that seafoam would have made them awesome looking......too bad. I'll probably still get them cause I need some new shoes.

Man ... if that green seafoam color were a different color, they would be my next shoe of choice. Hopefully when my Barricades wear out, Nike will have added new color choices to the Cage.

As long as they feel similar to the BFII's, I'll love them.

They are basically the breathe free IV (just a new name) and are kind of like Nike's Barricade in a way.

i dont think they are a new breathe 4, they look exactly like the 2's with the cage on them...the shoe itself is the same...i would rather have the 3's...that is if i liked nike....

I actually like the colors. The description says it's like the II. The review link doesn't work.

Agree with vinnier6, its just like the B2 and with the cage design. Probably that's why Nike didnt name it the B4 as like they did on B3 which was a major overhaul design from B2 although keeping all the good points of B2.

I think B4 just a facelift from B2 and with a newer and durable outsold material XDR. :D

I like them. Thinking about getting some breathe 2s but the overall design of these cages looks pretty good. I cant stand the fugly girly colors though. When do you think the next colorway will come out. What was nike thinking.

Seafoam green is a classic Fender Stratocaster color as well has a classic 50s Chevy color.

Hardly ugly or girly. The whole point of pastels is that they are easy on the eyes.

As far as different colors go, two additional will be released. One on 5/1 and one on 6/1. A lot of people will like these if they were a big fan of the breathe II (they are very similar). I personally prefer the Breathe III's.

How can you guys say you prefer other shoes over them, when you haven't tried them (I'm assuming)........?

Anyways I'm not going to buy, I'm content with my Lotto Revenge's which are less than half the price of these =]

If the Cages are more stable Breathe II's, I'm all for it. The Breathe II, while great, can feel a bit flimsy at times. I had a nasty fall on court the other day. I've been wearing my Vapor IIIs as of late.

I just ordered a pair of Cages. I personally think they are nice looking (besides the green but its not too noticeable) asthetically a vast improvement over the bf3s. Im hoping the traction is improved from the breathe free 2s as that was my only complaint with those shoes.

I've talked to a friend of mine who wore them yesterday and he said the fit was about the same but it was stiff as a rock. I don't know how long Nike shoes need to be broken in, so I can't say, but he's been wearing Breathe since 2nd gen i think.

I don't think the traction will change as the sole is exactly like the BFII

Just got the shoes. They are a lot different then i thought they would be. The mesh in the front is a different material then the rest of the shoe... unlike the bfIIs and are very thin. The top of the shoe has MUCH more cushioning then the bfIIs as well. Also the toungue design has changed... it is disconnected from the top of the shoe.. if that makes any sense.

On court im not sure yet. I only played for about 1-2 hours with them. They seem pretty similar, just a lot more comfortable IMO. Also traction is slightly improved.

All comparisons that I will be making, will be compared to the Breathe Free IIs:

They are more narrow, have a larger 'tongue' (annoying) , have a more stiff cage, stiffer outsole and midsole, less traction, more padded 'tongue' (but it feels more flimsy), they also have a lot less room in the toe box (both vertically and especially horizontally), and like whoever above said, the 'tongue' and the cage are not connected anymore, which is a bit annoying.

Specifically they trimmed some outsole from the inside of the area near the ball of the foot, but also added some area to the outside. This may be an illusion due to the shoe being more narrow. But towards the outsides of the foot, there is a little extra material for those who supinate/under-pronate. This will also be nice for those who often roll their ankle. The shoe sits a bit higher, and while the shoe looks like it has more room towards the front of the foot (ball/toe) it's so stiff, that it doesn't necessarily equate to that. The plastic piece that bridges the ball and heel area of the shoe is a bit thicker, but it's also shorter. I don't know if this necessarily mean better arch support or not... Tread design is visually the same.

I think they run about a 1/4-1/2 size smaller than the BF IIs. The outsole seems a little more durable, this probably at the cost of grip.

If you thought the BF IIs were a little too wide or a little too flexible, you will love this shoe. Otherwise, I would stock up on the BF IIs, like I have. Or atleast will once I post this. :P

By the way, this shoe is very nice looking after you spend some time around it. The teal is a bit feminine looking, but it really contrasts well with the black and white. It's almost as nice looking as my old Photo Blue BF IIs. :o)

Also the toungue design has changed... it is disconnected from the top of the shoe..
But in this week's Vlog #12, Chris mentiones that the tongue is still connected to the top of the shoe on the new BF Cage.

Vamz
04-07-2007, 10:46 PM
Technically it is. But only near the toe of the shoe. MOST of the togue is not.

BreakPoint

Well, of course, all tongues on all shoes are connected to the rest of the shoe near the toes, but on the Vlog, Chris specifically called it a "uni-tongue" just like on the BFII's.

It even says so in the product description:

The Air Max Breathe Cage, worn by ATP player Rafael Nadal, offers the ultimate in speed oriented support, stability and court feel combined with a high level of durability and comfort. Very reminiscent of the Air Max Breathe II, this fourth version offers easier entry through a revised uni-tongue design and an even more durable XDR outsole.

HeadPrestige

yes it is a unitounge in that it connects to the sides of the shoes towards the top.. however the top of the tounge is completely disconnected from the rest of the shoe. its one piece, but its not built around the rim of the shoes like the bfIIs... doesnt really make sense to argue with the other guy, when he HAS the shoes, as do i.

Vamz
04-08-2007, 07:05 AM
Yeah, it's still a uni-tongue. The important thing to look at is the "revised" part. It's definitely different, and I found it harder to get into than the BF IIs. I usually just slipped them on, instead of tying them each time. I can't really do that with the Cage.

Why is no one comparing this shoe to the Nike Air Max Breathe 3? And why is the price for the Nike Air Max Breathe Free II, 3, and IV the same?

The sole looks the exactly same. Which is it? More or less?

Traction is marginally different. The material they used is a little harder (used a durometer) and more durable. If that's a make or break factor, I wouldn't really worry about it.

Also, the reason people don't compare them with the BF 3s is because people who tend to like the 2s, tend not to like the 3s. I know this is a fairly large generalization, but that's what it seemed on these boards. Plus the 3s did not sell nearly as well as the 2s. Plus if you look at the 2s and Cages, they are visually, very similar. Makes more sense to make that comparison.

agree with vamz. tried the BF III's on my feet just on carpet and instantly hated their feel. Too bulky in the back, doesn't have a low(er) to ground feel like the bf II.

III's were a disaster for me. Felt like a shoe designed for a monkey's foot. No offense to wearers of the shoe.

Just ordered a pair. The colors aren't that bad in person. The aqua isnt as prominent as it is on the screen. Also the majority of the shoe is navy so it looks like the breathe 2s.

I've had a product voucher since last august and have been unable to find a half way decent shoe on niketown.com to spend it on. the last months since i saw rafa use the cages in australia i was waiting for it to come out. But they are really testing my patience. I guess i could go with Vapor IV, i mean thats a great shoe, but I'd love to have a 6 month durability warranty with my shoes.

I'm guessing they'll be up in a week or so....I'd wait it out. I'm guessing TW and ******* get stuff a little early. Even my local niketown doesn't have them yet. But I talked to a tennis shop and they said they are in the process of being shipped to them.....so I'm assuming it's the same with Niketown and all the other vendors.

thats Good to hear. FINALLY somethign to use my vouchers on. I invariably burn through shoes like there's no tomorrow. aka free shoes galore. Some asked what I thought of the chlorine blue. I like it I guess, I'm not sure if I like it more than the current white and black though. From what i imagine the hideous aqua that makes the current model a fashion mistake would be mostly covered up by my socks and such. I like the blue colorway nadal was using at PLO better, at least i think they're not exactly the same, but maybe i'm a bit colorblind. thanks for the feedback though guys.
