My PS85 is pretty good on serve but I was wondering what would happen if I added 3 grams of lead each at 9 and 3 o clock. How would it serve be? forehand?

Also, just wondering I saw a pic of pete sampras ps85 was layers of lead taped to the head. What was his setup?

Lead at 3 & 9 will definitely make your serve heavier and racquet more stable. The best way to find out id to add it slowly. Don't try to imitatet Sampras' set-up. You will kill your shoulder. :)

I've placed lead tape on my PS 85s a little higher up on the hoop.....

Just curious, why did you decide on that location?

Did you test out other spots (3 & 9, 4 & 8, 12, etc.) ?

Thanks for sharing..

I've tried lead at 3 & 9 (I did this with my Dunlop HM 200gs as well), but found that the torsional maneuverability wasn't to my liking.

I did like lead at 12 a lot, but I settled on the above setup mainly because of my stringing machine. If I placed the lead at 12, it would get crushed by the mounting system. I don't have a single post at 12 like current machines.

What I've got shown is a good mix between 12 and 3 & 9.......for me.

hey jack, thanks for uploading the pics. So was Sampras racquet extremelt head heavy? How much lead did he put in the head?

Also, if I want to put lead in the butt to counter the weight in the head, how can i do that to the ps85, it doesnt have a openable butt cap...

You'd have to as Greg Raven about the Sampras frame shown above. That's his racket. He's got specs on his website.

VGP is correct, I don't own the racquet.. I just remembered where sample pics of it were located:

Notes and explanatory material to come. In the meantime, here's a page with some background material on the Wilson Pro Staff line, including the St. Vincent. Also, here are some photos of one of Pete's racquets.
