so i've been using my 1 hand backhand for a long time now but i just can't seem to dial it in ever. i do everything i can but in the end the only way i can play consistently is if i take my time, bend the knees, do all that stuff and then hit like a soft warm up rally. if i try to go hard i screw up somewhere. i misshit or hit the net or hit the ball out. i tried the 2 hand backhand for a little just to see if i could do it again. i was hitting some amazing shots. but otherwise i still had some problems with misshitting and such. i guess its cause i havn't had enough experience using the 2 hand and it makes a big difference in how i play

so what should i do? give the 2 hand another try? maybe even switch? work on the 1 hand more?

how long have you been working on a 1-hander? if its been a while, i'd say stick with it. if not, then try them both out in a hitting session and think about it for a long time and decide which is more comfortable for you, and which one you think will help your game.

i also use a 1-hander, and i have the same problem. when hitting easy shots that i have time to set up for, i can nail my 1-hander. but in match situations, and in hitting hard shots, it falls apart. i'm just keeping practicing. after getting sound mechanics and the correct grip, all you really CAN do is just practice. the one thing that helped me out the most is "over the net-ready yet?" its something my coach told me, and i make sure on all my groundstrokes, especially my backhand, that once the ball is over the net, already have my racquet back. all shots, ESPECIALLY the 1-hand backhand, is all about preparation. just keep trying to get prepared earlier and earlier, and eventually it'll come around

thanks for the advice. ill give it a try tomorrow morning. im a 16year hold high school jv player. i've been using the one hander for about a year now. i like the one hand cause it lets me swing freely and comfortably. the 2 hander feels so compact and tight and uncomfortable but if thats what makes me consistent then i guess ill have to use it.
