I have this game point problem. I had 2 advantages yesterday on my own serve, but I gave them away with double faults and couldn't hold my serve. I served well until the advantage, then the serve collapsed. I think it is because I wanna win the point and got nervous.

any remedy to this situation? what do you tell yourself or what do you think on advantage or game point?

That's definately a bummer when you get into that kind of rutt. I'd say you might need more of a routine in terms of planning every point so that you place similar importance on each one. After all, winning the deuce point that gives you a game point is no less important, right? Some players like to stay sharp by imagining that they're always down a break of serve, even if they're already up a break in a set.

Come up with your own brief mental checklist for each point so that you already know what you're going to do at the start of every point before you do it. Remember that there's a huge difference in positive psychology by urging yourself to 'get your first serve in' instead of telling yourself 'don't double fault'. Apply your most effective level of aggression to every point regardless of the score and you might be able to play more evenly.

If you're nervous, play more matches. Stay postitve too ;)

If you serve with consistent speed before this situation, try taking a little off the serves. This helps with not only getting the ball in, but it can throw off the opponent.

supposedly (I don't think it matters, but I hear this works for others) your never supposed to think in the negitive to yourself, meaning don't say no.

so for example, when it's match point, you need to be thinking "Get this serve in" instead of "do not double fault"

I try to think as little as possible. I just step to the line, decide where to put my serve, and do it. That's what usually works for me. I find that everything goes smoother when I don't think about it and I just do it. I know that's easier said than done though.

Why are these really old posts getting revived?
