Baghdatis. Once (if) he gets himself sorted out he'll be top 5. The most exciting player on the tour whichever way you look at it. He smiles, he jokes he gets angry. Truly emotional and very human.

05-04-2007, 04:01 PM
Mr. Federer

05-04-2007, 10:28 PM
Now: Federer, Gasquet and Safin.

Then: Becker.

Becker set the standard for teenage prodigies, winning Wimbeldon at age 17.

He was a great athlete; he had excellent groundstrokes; he was a very good vollyer; he had a very good serve.

He should have won at least ten grand slam titles. Why he didn't, we can debate. But he had the talent and the game for it. He was a very complete player. I'd say perhaps better than Federer simply because he had a more potent and natural net game.

And although Becker competed during a time when many great players competed: McEnroe, Connors, Wilander, Edberg, Agassi, Sampras, Courier, Chang, Muster, Lendl, etc, etc, when Becker was really on his game he crushed opponents... at least those that were his most immediate contemporaries: Edberg, Wilander, Lendl. I just believe Becker became distracted by other issues during his tennis career. But again, when he was at his best he scored some really one-sided wins over the best players of his day, not only on the ATP, but in Davis Cup, too.

Becker's completeness was obvious to see when playing Lendl and Edberg. He could hold his own against Lendl from the baseline and volley as well as Edberg. And serve and return better than either.

Perhaps Federer moves better than Becker, but when you look at SERVE, RETURN OF SERVE, VOLLEY, and GROUNDSTROKES (plus athleticism) Becker was the complete player.

I know the Sampras fans will quickly claim that their man was superior to Becker, but by the time Sampras achieved dominance over Becker, Becker was close to the end of his professional career. Becker was an '80s player; Sampras was a '90s player. Their careers happened to overlap. Becker probably had a better backhand than Sampras, and he was unquestionably a much better volleyer than Sampras. In fact, the only two men who were better volleyers than Becker were McEnroe and Edberg... and Becker had a better ground game and service return (and serve) than either of them.

Federer will finish up his career with more Grand Slam titles than Becker, but Becker won his first -- Wimbeldon, the most difficult -- at age 17. I doubt any of us will see this record equalled in our lifetimes. It may never be surpassed.

Roddick, but my second favorite is James Blake.

05-05-2007, 04:47 AM
nadal, nalbandian and gaudio after seeing those videos.

05-05-2007, 07:22 AM
Where is Safin.

05-05-2007, 02:22 PM
Where is Safin.

Not in the top 10.

05-05-2007, 02:29 PM
Nadal. Roddick is my second favorite. I don't care for anyone else on that list. Also this explains all the hate on Nadal. More Fed fans=more Nadal haters. I don't blame them though. Getting owned by Nadal a lot has got to hurt.

05-05-2007, 09:39 PM
Roddick is a nice guy and a pretty decent tennis player... but an all-time great -- no way!

Jimmy Connors, yes!

Andy Roddick, no!

Roddick represents what's wrong with junior tennis in the US: hardcourts, big serve, big forehand, that's all, folks.

Roddick peaked in 2003.

And James Blake?

He proved that you can go to college and still make a modest success on the pro tour. But didn't Todd Martin prove that about ten years ago, and didn't he have a lot more success as a pro?

Blake's one decent year came too late in his career. If he had had 2006 as a breakout year and was just 21, I'd figure he has a bright future. But he's what, 27? 28?

Stick a fork in James Blake. He's done.

i'm not going to participate in the poll, cause i like two top 10 players...
1. Novak Djokivivc] CANT SPELL LOL

05-06-2007, 06:34 AM
Ljubicic and Robredo are my favorite in the top ten. Though my real favorites Grosjean, Gasquet, Nalbandian, Ferrero, and Spadea.

05-06-2007, 06:36 AM
Novak Djokovic because he has the best sense of humor and his tennis is simply beautiful :D
Also he's not Nadal or Federer and that's a plus since the rivalry and the debates have become annoying :p

a guy
05-06-2007, 08:14 AM
Andy Murray and james blake, Henman if he was still in the top 10.

05-06-2007, 11:23 AM
I chose djokovic but I like gonzo, fed, roddick, and gasquet

Chip n' charge
05-06-2007, 11:56 AM
I like Gonzalez because he always puts "junk" on the ball. His winners are all up in the 90 mph region. Its what the sport needs.

05-06-2007, 12:03 PM
Murray. The guy's got attitude.

05-06-2007, 05:16 PM
My favorite to ten player is...the Djoker! I know Novak gets a bad rep for being a cheater and being too cocky, but I think he's hilarious, and I love watching him play.

05-06-2007, 09:28 PM

Favorites: Sampras, Haas, Rafter, Grosjean, Arazi, Mathieu, Ferrero, and a host of others!

05-06-2007, 10:54 PM
Yeah I also like Ferrero. Unfortunately he never got back to that level that he was 4-5 years ago.

05-07-2007, 05:25 PM
Baghdatis. Once (if) he gets himself sorted out he'll be top 5. The most exciting player on the tour whichever way you look at it. He smiles, he jokes he gets angry. Truly emotional and very human.

He is my favorite player. I hope he collects himeself too but not only is baghdatis a great player but he is just so much fun to watch with his funny personality
