Some tennis fans think that winning a slam 3 times in a row gives you almost a lock to win it a 4th consecutive time as well.

But the facts say otherwise.
Let's analyse the women slam winners post-WW2.

1) Nancy Bolton won the AO in 1946-48 - but Doris Hart in 1949
2) Louise Brough won Wimbledon in 1948-50 - but Doris Hart in 1951
3) Margaret duPont won the USO in 1948-50 - but Maureen Connolly in 1951
4) Maureen Connolly won the USO in 1951-53 - but Doris Hart in 1954
5) Maureen Connolly won Wimbledon in 1952-54 - but Louise Brough in 1955
6) BJ King won Wimbledon in 1966-68 - but Ann Haydon-Jones in 1969
7) Evonne Goolagong won the AO in 1974-76 - but Kerry Melville in 1977
8) Steffi Graf won the AO in 1988-90 - but Monica Seles in 1991
9) Steffi Graf won Wimbledon in 1991-93 - but Conchita Martinez in 1994
10) Martina Hingis won the AO in 1997-99 - but Lindsay Davenport in 2000
(we will not count Seles at FO 90-92 and AO 91-93 because she was stabbed)

But there were players who won a 4th consecutive title:
1) Margaret Smith won the AO 1960-62 - and 1963
2) Chris Evert won the USO in 1975-77 - and 1978
3) Martina Navratilova won Wimbledon 1982-84 - and 1985

So not even 1 in 4 players manages to win a 4th consecutive title.
Surprising, isn't it ... ?
