Slams weren't as presitgious in 1990 as they are now. Mainly thanks to what Pete did in the 1990s winning all those slams. He single-handedly made slams a pop-cultural phenomenon. :) :) :)

I've never heard that before, that's interesting. I wasn't watching tennis back then so I wouldn't know.

I have seen the video a couple of times and it appears that it's basically a forshadowing of the next 12 years to come. As Samp is absolutely terrorising a helpless opponent. It just happens that in this video the victim is soon to be 8 slam winner Agassi. Crazy.

slams weren't as prestigious in the 90's ?... ummm i don't think so : they were already as much prestigious as they are today. ;)

I said in 1990 they weren't as prestigious as they would be say in 1995. Sampras winning 6 slams in a short period is what did it. Sure, Borg won more in a lesser period of time, but he wasn't American. Also Pete played many big finals on NBC.

The statement itself indicates that the writer may have began following the sport, lets see, in the mid '90s?

While this may be your personal perception or assumption, respectfully, it is way off.

I think FedFan2007 is just joking around...aren'tja?

Yeah, poor Agassi; all eyes were on him and all the expectations...and here's Pete, younger and a tennis geek sorta who's not nearly as visible...and well we know the rest.

1990-2007, slam winning span for both Pete and Fed. 24 combined slams. Imagine them as a doubles-team.
