I'm just wondering whats the difference between 16/19 and 18/20. My nSixOne 95 has a 16/19 and the strings moved a lot, but my topspins weren't so great. I played with my friends Völkl Tour 10 Mid 18/20 and it felt that it was very forgiving and that I felt I was able to control my shots.

16/19 is more open so it gives you more power, and more spin potential. Where the 18/20 is tight, so the power is low, control is higher and the spin potential is not as great. but you can counter some of that with thinner gauge strings.
But i think the general consensus (from what i have read here) about volkls is that they are indeed very forgiving.

The string on my friends Völkl were Gosen Polylon 17g, I didn't get a lot of spin but it was a tad bit. Maybe some 18g would be good for the 18/20 string pattern? Or 17g is okay?

I use to place heavy emphasis on using lower gauge strings to get spin. But lately i have realized that it is more based on your swing. BUT in a tighter string pattern (18x20) you can try using a 18g, which will increase your bite and power, but i don't know by how much
What your play style? grip ... baseliner ... or s&v?

Baseliner. I'm still working on my volley, but it isn't going to well. My reactions are a bit slow.
