Few names that come to mind are (no particular order):
Djokovic, Murray, Nalbandian, Agassi, Safin, Berdych, and even Nadal, even though he doesn't strike it as clean as the other players I listed, it is surprisingly effective.

I would like to add Hrbaty to the mix. Dominik has a very solid, powerful, and reliable backhand. It's not a top stroke, but he has one nice 2handed ;)

Considering Nadal doesn't rely on his serve like Roddick does and yet is much better I do consider him as the best or one of the best on both sides.

Nadal relies on his forehand just like Roddick does the serve. It's the hallmark of his game.

Nadal relies on his speed to win games, not his forehand. His arsenal of groundstrokes only compliment his overall game. Nadal could honestly have some of the ugliest and weakest strokes in the game of tennis and still be pretty good, just look at Canas. Barely hits the ball and yet he beats Federer, Ljuby, etc.

Roddick is a completely different story. His serve IS his crutch.

Makes no sense to dog Rafa's backhand. It's absolutely one of the best.

Rafa relies on his ground game to win matches. If he didn't have one of the very best backhands in the world he wouldn't be where he is.

It just so happens that he has to go backhand to opponents' forehands and that makes it look weaker than it is.

If his backhand weren't world class, Federer would trounce him on clay by hitting his forehand to Rafa's backhand. Rafa has one of the very best backhands.

I agree. To win the French Open, you have to be strong on both sides. Nadal's forehand is better obviously because he can attack other players backhand easier but his backhand is very solid as well. Nadal does hit unbelievable shots on the run but when he is set up, he will just dominate. Example is what he did to Canas.

Safin's 2 hander is a legend. It's got the weight of a cannon ball and the precision and speed of a laser. I'll never forget his MP against Fed in the 05 AO. The backhand forced Fed down to his knees!

To me, you can't really compare Safin's bh to Nalbandian's. The only thing they have in common is precision. Safin's is a power shot while Nalbandian's is a counter punching shot like Hewitt.

Favorite power 2hbhs:
Safin
Ferrero
Agassi

Favorite counter punching bh's
Nalbandian

Oh shut up, as if the Fed fans aren't just as bad. Not to mention he has a legitamate place here, seeing as Nadal repeatedly hits amazing two hander passing shots. Nalbandian's isn't much of a weapon, whereas Nadal's is. Also how can you even find Safin's backhand? Only thing I have ever seen him do on a tennis court is break racquets;)

I agree. I would add Chang's backhand to the counter punching category, but he's too old school...

Also, I think Agassi's backhand is not really a power backhand. He took the ball on the rise, so I'd say in-between...

Nalbandian's backhand isn't a weapon? Define weapon then, his backhand down the line is one of the best in tennis.

You know very well that to judge a guy's backhand based on his ranking is absurd. "Nadal hits bh passing shots," so what, so does Nalbanian, all the time.

Agassi's forehand was much better than his backhand. Nadal I believe has a better backhand than Agassi. This coming from a big Agassi fan back in the day. The thing Agassi was way better at than Nadal is the return of serve.

I say Nalbandian, the power he generates from his moderate backhand swing is amazing, he should be a top 5 player easily.

To say Agassi's forehand was "much" better is, well, your opinion I guess. I always thought it was the balance between his groundstokes that made him so dominant, that and like you said, his legendary return. But the balance is what made him such a hot young prospect, and temporary dissapointment early in his career because he lost to guys with "inferior" ability like Courier. Goes to show you how important mental toughness is.

Ferrero's is a stable, relatively powerful backhand. He has very good knee bend on the shot which is why it rarely breaks down.

I don't know why everybody is saying that Nadal's backhand is one of the best. It's a fugly stroke. He just muscles the ball, not very fluid. I would take Safin, Nalbandian, Fish, Bagdhatis, and Hewitt over him.
