Well, today I got my first Loehr video in the mail, as recommended by one of my coaches. For those of you who don't know who Jim Loehr is, he is one of the most well known sports/tennis psychologists around, who also happens to make movies.

So, I plugged "The 16 Second Cure" into my outdated VCR and plopped down to watch, being the lazy high school kid I am. Basically, Jim describes the commonalities that top-level players use in between points, and breaks them down into 4 steps:

Positive Mental Reaction - ending the point by simply turning around

Rexlaxation - Walking back behind the baseline, walking back and forth, looking at strings etc, anything to relieve tension from the last point

Preparation - Standing about 2 feet behind the service line and visualizing the next point while portraying a strong image

Rituals - Bouncing the ball before a serve, swaying back and forth, etc.

Loehr says that all this should be done in about 16 seconds, hence the name of the tape.

I recommend serious tennis players, mentally weak or not, to pick up this tape. It really highlights things that I know at least I need to work on. It can in no way harm your tennis game, only improve it.

Update: this is only "Volume 1" of a whole series of movies. I am definitely checking out the other ones. The replay value on these things is incredible. It has helped my game the day after I watched it, no joke.
