Anyone know what the largest frame on tour being used (past or present) by a pro right now is? Female and/or male?

Here is the rule on frame size: (not sure if this rule is still up to date)
b. The frame of the racket shall not exceed 29 inches (73.66 cm) in overall length, including the handle. The frame of the racket shall not exceed 121/2 inches (31.75 cm) in overall width. The hitting surface shall not exceed 151/2 inches (39.37 cm) in overall length, and 111/2 inches (29.21 cm) in overall width.

Well TW.com says Serena Williams is using this racket: http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageRCWILSON-W3GR.html

That is 113 sq. in. oversize. I just can't imagine why she would use this since her arms are bigger than some men's arms.

I don't know of a player using a larger racket.

The Williams sisters do use enormous poweful racquets that are supposedly beginner racquets, although at the australian open I saw Serena sporting a smaller headed blacked out racquet that looked more like a players frame. wonder if that has something to do with her successful comeback

Well, I found this post in another thread. Anyone know which male uses the largest racquet on tour right now?

Viktoriya Kutuzova holds the record for largest pro frame, outside of the Williams sisters: http://www.pbase.com/all_sports_pics/image/46470347

Didn't Nathalie Tauziat hit for a while with the PK Super Legendary Destiny?! As far as I remember it had 800 cm² which is 124 sqinch. Apart of this Monica Seles last Yonex frame has a good chance to get the crown.

Wasn't the 85 the smallest on tour up until a few years ago? So the smallest current frame size is 90, correct? So I guess there's a small shift towards larger headsizes, hmmm. Is that pretty prevalent among the touring professionals? I mean, their careers depend on them winning, right? If they want to win, they should use the best equipment suited for their personal games. So I would think going down a few square inches would actually be detrimental to their games. I mean, you won't see Federer using an 85 anytime soon, nor would you see Safin going towards a 85 headsize. Headsize does matter, but to a certain extent. But making exaggerations to prove a misleading point isn't going to help solve anything.

BTW, Drakulie started tihs thread just so he could quote you guys on another thread to prove me wrong about how "racket headsize." If it wasn't noticeable, he still hasn't written any further input here, but he has quoted a few of you in another thread.

JM Gambill used a Prince Thunderbolt, 115" head back in the 90s.

Way to answer his question.

Monica Seles's huge, extended-length racquet (I believe it was a Yonex) is definitely a candidate for the largest racquet used on tour. As of currently active top pros, there aren't any (besides the Williams sisters) that I can think of with hugely oversized heads. Jankovic uses the 03 Red, which has a 105 sq inch head.

Yo Drak, what's up? Without doing any research (because I'm lazy like that), I would probably say guys like Spadea, that are still using the POG OS, would be using the largest racquets on tour. Just a guess though. I wouldn't think many male pros would be using racquets bigger than that these days.

Thanks couch. I thought of Spadea >. I believe he still uses the POG OS?? I was wondering if there were other pros that use a larger racquet???

By the way, got a deal on a used Volkl c10. I should be receiving it with in the next week. I'll make sure I post a pic of me holding it :)

The "POG", Prince Classic, or whatever it's called is also used by Ferrero.

I think she played one tournament with it, or an exhibition. I asked in another topic about the Gypsy Rose racquet because I had never seen her actually use it. Someone found a photo, I think.

She won the AO with the new thin-beamed black control racquet.

I don't know of any males that would use anything "bigger" than that (110 sq. in.), or want to for that matter. :). I would venture to guess that you won't see any of those (110 sq. in. heads) around after Spadea calls it quits.

Sweeeet! I can't wait to see the c10 in your hands. Did you get the 98 or 93?

Ferrero uses the POG LB. It is in the same "mold" as the POG frames but it's a 100 sq. in. and 28" long.

There seem to have been a shift rather to 100 sq in. 15 years ago you either used 90-95 or 107-110, now most people use 98-100 IMO.
It would be interesting to see a list of headsizes on the ATP and WTA. This should be easier to determine than weight etc.

Seles in 2000 used the Yonex Super RQ-1000 Long aka "Big Yonie". Massive 130 sq. in. head, super thick 36mm, and extra long 28.5". She strung that beast at 90 lbs. with Tecnifibre 515.

http://members.cox.net/chuxwords/Seles.jpg

I've always thought that she had to compensate for her two hands on both sides and lackluster movement with a bigger racquet.

^^^ LOL. I collect racquets and wanted to add one to my collection. I don't have any volkls. couch helped me pick one out.

I think volkls, like every other brand make great frames. They all have a "flagship" racquet that that goes on throughout the years. Volkls, in particular are just not my cup of tea (too soft). My issue isn't necessarily with the racquet, but a certain poster who **used** to shove them down everyones throat.

Hey Drak, sorry I haven't replied but I've been out of town the last couple of days. I'm not sure if there are any differences between the two frames but I think both of them came in 93 and 98 sq. in. Maybe a "real" Volkl expert can answer this for you. I've used a few of their frames (Tour 10, Tour 10 Gen. II, Volkl DNX 9, Tour 8) but have always gravitated back to the 8's. The 8's, IMHO, are a less powerful, thinner beam, version of a Pure Drive.

Looks like you got a good looking one (shape wise). Have fun with it and let me/us know how you like it.
