OK either i am bad at maths or something is awry on these boards.

I am not saying that Greg Ravens specs are wrong, in fact judging by the reputation on these boards they are more than likely spot on, i am just wondering what causes this discrepancy

Greg Ravens Overall Mass of Nadals Racquet = 332

Aero Pro Drive = 300 g
Strings = 20g (at least with the 1.35mm)
Overgrip = 4g

That is 324 g

Now on Nadals website he said he adds 15g to bumper and 5 g to butt cap

Total = 344 +dampener 346g

or

324 + 9.5 at 12 and 2.5 butt cap 336 + 2 dampener =338 g

Are these specs being posted not taking into account the overgrip / dampener or am i missing something else

Isn't the APD 300 (+-7) therefor, that stick could've been higher or lower that 300, the 15 and 5 won't be the same on EVERY stick that'll be a guideline for the specific specs that Nadal is used to.

hmmm maybe i just found it hard to add lead under the bumper, in the handle and put an overgrip on and keep it around the 332 weight. it meant the rcket was still very headlight.

only doing the setup as an experiment so not overly bothered.

Are you sure it is the same stock frame made available to the public that Nadal customizes? Or could it be a frame with "paintjob" specs?

It is also possible that Nadal had changed his specs, maybe experimented a bit by making it heavier, so the specs might have changed over these 2 or so years.

Could Nadal be just as good as he is today if he stuck with the Pure Drive???

good question.

Also, if you add 15g anywhere under the bumper of a stock Aeropro drive, the swingweight is going to be about 370 - a lot higher than the racquet Greg measured. I've experimented with lead on the Aeropro Drive, and I can tell you that it is much more spin-friendly at SW 370 than it is at SW 353.

well i added 9.5 grams under the bumper and really struggled to keep the ball in play last night. the racket felt solid but just so powerful.

i may try 15g just to see what happens

This is just a teenage girl fan site, not a page for gearhead stringers. When Fed's site said he used an off-the-shelf (no difference in string pattern or pallet) Ncode 90, was it taken as gospel? Greg's evidence is the best evidence, measuring Nadal's actual racket, and as he said could be reproduced by 2.5 grams of lead under the grip and 7.5 under the bumper of a TW speced Aerodrive. What's being done in this thread is the opposite of the scientific method, trying to make the facts fit a hypothesis - I want it to be so therefore it must be.

I have not questioned the validity of gregs specs!

Just that when i weighed my APD strung with 1.35 mm poly and an overgrip it weighs in at 331g no lead.

I realise this makes my APD heavier then the 300g it is in fact 306 unstrung no overgrip

Of course, it is the same racquet, minus some difference in shape, which does nothing.

Racquet aerodynamics doesn't do any good. You see Federer and countless other pros playing box beam racquets.

The Aero pro just gives Nadal a "signature" racquet. He probably changed just because too many others were using Pure drives.

This is what happens with any racquet when you add lead to the hoop. At SW 350-360, it will play too flat and overpowered. But when you add enough to get the swingweight in the 370 range, the spin/power ratio goes way up and you can hit a heavier ball that stays in the court.

Swingweight of 355 = overpowered and hard to keep the ball in play.

Swingweight over 365 = more ball flattening = higher spin/power ratio.

Yet Nadal's SW is 355, and he keeps the ball in play ALOT

Well I'm not trying to be an arse, but c'mon it was measured on an RDC machine as 355 not 370

Well... I suggest you test out an Aeropro Drive at 370, and then again at 355. Then tell me which plays more like you would expect Nadal's stick to play like.

How am I suppossed to "Expect" what Nadal's stick plays like i've not played with it...have you???, I suggest you stop saying that MEASURED specs. are wrong because of what you felt when playing with an APD, I've played with JCF's specs on a POG LB now tell me looking at his play what would you expect a POG LB to his specs to play like compared to one with stock specs

yeah with 15g under the guard it was pretty much more spinny but the preparation time was really noticeable.

I tried 10g at 12 in my apd and even that seemed to take up to much prep time. i found i was better off just using 5 g and generating higher rac head speed to help with the spin. are you going to keep using the 15g in the head?

... if you would have his arm, you could prep without time.
