Nadal has so many similarities with Monica Seles. Besides from being lefthanded, he started out as twohanded on both sides like Monica and like her, you never feel the point is over, even when they are down, especially on clay. Both grunt. Roger Federer on the other hand has similarities with Steffi Graf, concerning breakpoints. Both of them can play awfull when they have breakpoint,s yet brilliant when they are breakpoint down. Both are silent. Nadal/Seles, you know beforehand they are going to take breakpoints. Federer/Graf can be accused of wanting to play too many pretty points, and end up losing the points, because of tactical errors.

There are of course also differences, but I feel like we have a male deja vu of something we had in the past with the women.

i sort of see the nadal/seles similarity you point out. but i'm not so sure about the federer/graf thing. are you sure steffi had problems converting breakpoints? do you have any stats to back up this claim? the way i remember her, graf was probably the most efficient competitor in tennis. i don't remember anyone winning so many 6-1 and 6-0 sets over their entire career.

Not as many as Roger. But I remember a match she played at Wimbledon 1990 against Zina Garrisson, Graf had all these breakpoints, but couldn't take them. Against Seles, she was leading at RG 1990 and then all of a sudden started to play badly. You're right about her being one of the most efficient competitors. However, like Roger, Steffi could totally dictate the point and then lose it with a strange error.

Rafael and Monica, you always feel that they never do st like that.
