I like the feel of Wilson strings but I somehow know that there are better strings out there. I don't know how i know this but i do. Wilson own most of the market so they can market there products until they reach our ears with praise. I know it may seem like i am criticizing Wilson but I feel they command the market and other brands are less better off. Or am i just biased. But i like their products.

I know why I'm criticizing the brand because of the commanding position it holds in the market. I have nothing against the products and I use them for my tennis needs (rackets and strings) but I want to know whether Wilson has deservedly reached the upper echelons of tennis because of the high quality of its products or on the publicity of talents such as the William's sister, henin and of course the GOAT that is Roger Federer.

Which brands do you feel should be competing with Wilson and co dependent on the quality of the product?

Nike in football = Wilson in tennis

Personally, I don't think wilsons products are terribly high quality compared to smaller companies like PK, Yonex, and string companies like Polyfibre, Signum pro, topspin, and others. That is my opinion, take it as such.

I understand you perfectly and everyone is entitled to their own valued opinion. I think many people are on the same wavelength as you, Voltron.

I agree. Lemme get on my high pony once more about Wilson NXT. I used them for quite a while but last year tried Yonex 850 which is quite similar but better in every imaginable way. And it costs less too!

Now finding 850 in my city isn't easy, but ordering from TW is just fine.

And I think the RDS001 Mid is a better racquet(not to mention tighter spec tolerances) than the Wilson [k]Tour 90. And I'm 99.9% certain that something fishy is going on as to how it scored higher than the 001 on the TW review.

I believe that people buy into Wilson products because it will make them the "best". As i say, it's all in the mind and psychology plays a huge factor. For example give someone a stock K90 and the exact same racket without the paint-job and branding as Federer's stick. Most will believe that the K90 suits them best.

1. if you are playing opponents around your level of play, tennis gets to be a 85-90% mental issue. so, whatever makes you feel good and confident (playing with federer's racquet, or henin's for instance) will give you the boost on court.
2. i also use wilson products (nblade and nxt tour - so no "federer"-effect for me, but you could say djokovic:D ), but this is also a matter of availability. for instance i can only demo babolat and head racquets besides wilson. i do not doubt that for instance dunlop has great products, but i'm just not willing to buy for try.
3. babolat has very good strings - natural gut, but those are pricey and i cannot afford to play with it since i'm breaking strings between 8-10hrs. the multis and polys i have tried (no so many admittedly) have not fitted my game and combination with the nblade, so i "got stuck" with nxt tour.
4. while i do not make my purchasing decision based on what player plays with what racquet/strings/etc., i think that there are quite a few people out there that do so, and end up with something that simply does not fit their game. you cannot prevent this marketing stuff - how many "talented" drivers do you see driving around in porsche's and ferrari's? :D

My point exactly. You can never find the perfect accessory because it is affected by what people think. This, for some people, is the end all of all things.

anthony samson,
maybe i didn't express myself clearly - it is much more important what YOU feel than what people think. so, you can find a perfect accessory (but i don't think strings are an accessory!) by just going through the available options. if something is not available you simply cannot evaluate, so it is always possible there is something out there that fits better, but if you can't get it, why bother?
if someone thinks that he plays like federer because he is playing the racquet and the strings he plays, than it's his decision and (if i'm better and win the match) his problem.
i just care for what i feel, but it is possible that my mind is influenced by some endorsements too.

I have to say that I used to be a big fan of Wilson strings (sensation, enduro pro, and NXT Tour mainly), but now that I'm starting to use and test a lot of different strings, I would have to say that there are a lot of other, better string companies out there.
