Basically the article says that they prefer to be ready for the clay tournaments in July since they had poor results in Wimbledon before.

with these withdrawals, mahut must be close to a direct entry into the main draw... he would deserve that !

That Cilic lives off wild cards. And he has never done anything useful with them. Yea, he's Croatian, but God, I dislike the guy.

Isnt he 18? I think its only a matter of time before he starts playin well

he also needs to eat some food, he looks like a skeleton..

Yeah, he is 18. Plenty of time to achieve consistent results.
But he has been pushed since he was 16...wild cards every year to 2 ATP tournaments in Croatia, playing in the DC (both a live singles and the doubles) last year after Ancic's injury...no other Cro player had so much hype over them or so many chances at such a young age. He was treated like a star just cause a matter of circumstances. And it got to his head a bit. So far, except Gstaad last year, he hasn't been backing it up with results.
Though, I admit, he did a good job at Queens...we'll see what happens next.

That's rough news about Melzer. He made some progress in the indoor season and at the grass court event in Newport. Gaudio and Acauso aren't losses for Wimbledon so it is not a big deal at all.

Great news for Tsonga, a player on the roll he's been on truly deserves a wildcard!

Nice to see effort rewarded, doesn't seem to happen often enough thesedays....

With two wild cards back in the mix because Acasuso and Gaudio withdrew, I would have given a wild card to Nicolas Mahut. As it is Mahut might not even get through the Roehampton qualifying. If he does then it's 2 weeks of match play on the trot so I doubt the Wimbledon crowd will see him at his best.

Edit: Looks like Mahut is #76 according to ATP ranking as of 18th. I wonder when the ranking cut off point is for the Wimbledon draw.

Edit2: Mahut gained a win at Roehampton according to the Wimbledon results page so he may be too tired come Wimbledon.

Yeah Cilic does live of wildcards. But he is only 18 i think we will see alot from him in the years to come.

Za momak kome je samo 18 godina dobro igra. U Queens je igrao protiv roddicka i nije mu bilo lako a super je igrao, i roddick je to priznao.

GOO MARINE!!

Whenyou see him in real life he isn't so "skinny" as he looks on tv...he's very tall so he appears very skinny.

Absolutely gutted that Cilic got knocked out Wimbly, 1st round.

I think Cilic was the better player but Simon has more experience.
