That is the tournament I am currently thinking about signing up for. It would be my first, and it is unranked so that eases some pressure off me. However, my "friend" keeps telling me I'll be stomped because I have to play in the 16's. I am 15 and I understand that I won't make it far. Going by the NTRP, I'm a 3.0-3.5, except for backhand. My backhand is a 2.5, but I am going to a tennis camp next week to work on my game. If I do go, could someone tell me some of the experiences playing in the 16's?

Experience can't hurt. In all likely hood you will get stomped, but go for it and have fun.

I entered a low-level tournament myself (I know this is unranked), and got crushed by one kid and was VERY close to winning in my other match.
Expect good competition, and bring your best stuff. If you tentatively play a shot normally or in practice...go for it if you're playing against a really good kid.

The experience is worthwhile. Go out and give your all. Leave it on the court and then you won't ever have to worry

Give it a try, it will give you an idea of what you need to work on to improve.

I am actually thinking about joining that tournament too for my first tournament. I am probably around a 3.5, 15 yo... Seems like fun and hopefully the experience from that might help a bit too. If you happen to join, let me know, maybe I will end up playing you, lol.
Sorry to post off topic , but what do these numbers mean? I'm new and also from England so maybe the rankings work different or something , but could someone explain?

Hey dude, I'm from the UK too, but their system goes like this
1.0 = beginner
.
.
.
.
7.0=Pro
Everything inbetween is like when we have 9.2 , 9.1. A 9.1 is better than a 9.2, but not as good as a 8.2
a 4.0 isn't as good as a 4.5 generally speaking.
If you go to the tennis tips and instruction forum, theres a massive description

that was me a year ago, the first couple you'll get a bad draw, but keep going, today i won the consolation final in a tournament that had many of the same players that were smoking me a year ago

hm i played in the 16s tourneys when i was 15, and there are alot of 15 year olds in that age group just like you, so you shouldnt be afraid of playing all of these big bad 16 year olds lol, cause some of them may not be as good as u. give it a shot, its a good experience

Haha, thanks everyone. I'm going to give it a shot once my card comes in. My friend who is going to play in the 14's is going to come with me. I'll update once I register :D

Anyone know if an unranked tournament gives points if you are to win a couple rounds?
Thanks
