It's quite an improvement over the old technology, though it is too bad you couldn't move over the discussions.

its great!
the best feature is now topics are sorted by newest post.. not when the topic was started :)

To me that's the worst feature. It was much better to see the newer posts on top in the old board. With this new one, you can have a really old thread pop up at the top just because someone types "hi" in it. Makes no sense. :?

I like the new format, and am looking forward to the variety of content.

Marnix is absolutely right. I have seen other boards similar to this one where people DO post deliberately useless posts JUST to get that thread to the top. It's ridiculous. I want to see the newest threads at the top - like I had arranged the preferences on the 'old' board. On the 'old' board, both ways were possible - newest Thread at the top, or newest Post at the top. In the 'new improved' format, there is only ONE way - newest Post at the top. And this is supposed to be PROGRESS?

It is not possible to keep track of new threads in this 'new' format. I have no desire to see a post from 18 days ago at the top of the list because someone typed "Hi", or "Bump" (to 'bump' it to the top) - or even if they added their very late choice for Best Racquet of the Week. If others prefer to have it this way, that's fine - but many of us find it highly impractical, and would like to have the option of newest threads at the top returned to us.

It certainly wasn't me that was right in this thread though.. ;)

Each new thread does automatically begin by being placed at the top of a forum. If people find the topic interesting, and choose to add to the discussion, it will stay at or near the top. If people don't find it interesting, it will gradually makes its way down the page until it falls off the front page entirely. Certainly makes sense to me.

And I sincerely doubt this board will be overwhelmed with people bumping posts just for the sake of bumping. In fact, with the small amount of traffic this board gets compared to many others, most newer topics will probably stay on the front page for days, if not weeks.

I would prefer to decide what is interesting TO ME, and not have it decided on the basis of a general popularity contest, or most recent posts.

The fact is that on the old boards, we all had a CHOICE. If YOU wanted the thread with the most recent post at the top, you could have it that way - and if I wanted the most recently written Thread at the top - regardless of the 'popularity' of a given thread - I could have it that way. Now, there is NO choice. Sorry, but I cannot see where this can be defined in any way as an improvement. Of course, Penpal, you like it, because you have it your way.

Deuce, Life is full of no choice decisions. Deal with it.
