View Full Version : Pusher + a Cheater = Me going insane

I played this kid in a tourney today and he was calling balls inside the line out and he knew he was doing it too. He was the ultimate pusher I've ever faced. So it was basically my worst nightmare. Some how he was the number one seed so I was expecting a good match with someone I can go toe to toe with but instead I get this little scrawny kid who is annoying as hell. He got every single ball back with sidespin and nasty junk. I came to net a lot and won most of my points there but whenever there were key moments in the match where I was winning this kid would just call the ball out even if it was inside the line and I was about to kill him. It was so bad we had to get a line judge and by that time I was so frustrated I let him get in my head and he won. It was a close match but I mean I had 10x better strokes then him I should have killed him. It was also pretty windy out but I don't like to make excuses. No wonder his number one he probably just annoys the hell out of people. So that being said does anybody have advice on how to deal with my situation or have past experiences to share like mine.

I don't like to make excuses.

Ok I'm really not trolling you, but I couldn't resist quoting this. Isn't your whole post an excuse for losing?

On another note, go to tennis tips/intructional and there is a giant thread about defeating pushers. Best thing is play them side to side and come into the net (which you said you were doing).

If someone calls your blatantly in balls out, do the same to him. Eventually he will catch on and stop.

Go to that instructional forum with the tips in it. And the calling their balls out was actually mentioned by a coach in Tennis magazine.

If someone is calling your shots out and you know that they are in, STOP PLAYING. GET A JUDGE before it is too late and you've lost too many crucial points. Honor went out the window the second the kid starting making bad calls!

You should've questioned some of his calls to let him know that you knew he was cheating.

heres what you do if your sure theyre cheating, not just mistaken: in the point after you decide to do it, wait till they hit a ball into the middle of the court (to make sure they get the point) and call the ball out, when they come up to complain, just tell them that if they want you to call your lines fair they need to call theirs. its more making a point than cheating. although why the hell would you wait so long to get a line judge if you know hes hooking you?

no, bad idea, dont question his line calls, if hes cheating hes obviously going to stand by the call no matter what. tell him you know hes cheating, much more direct and might actually rattle him, as opposed to the annoying as hell "are you sure?"

Don't do the same to him that'd be the worst thing you could do.. get a line judge immediately after a few obvious bad calls.

Yeah by questioning I meant letting him know you're cheating or something like saying "THERE'S NO WAY THAT BALL WAS OUT!" That's what I like to do and most of the time they give me the point or offer to replay it. I did this once in a while in HS tennis this year and I was surprised people gave in to me being a freshmen.

yesterday i was at a tournament and the kid on the next court kept making terrible calls and his opponenet got so mad he walked off the court for a line judge. But, they didn't give him one. So then the parents of both kids started fighting. Eventualy the two actualy got in a fist fight when the match was over. I don't even know who won though.

I didnt even realize that they could refuse to give you a line judge if you request one

Yea but line judges do sh!t. All they say is "oh, I didn't have a good angle." or "I couldn't really tell." Then they leave after a changeover, and the kid starts cheating again.

If your absolutely postitive that the kid is hooking you then do the same back.

Exactly. Even you have a line judge they don't do crap. The cheater could just say something like "it looked out" and the judge will say, "well, it is his call"
