This year I'm actually on the team, not just get to practice with them. But they're all a-holes , 3 of them are freshmen and think they're the next federer. The top 3 are mean and pick on everybody but they are good at tennis (obviously). I just dont like any of them, and I have to play tournaments with them.... :( Im so confused
just had to let that out...
thanks

Life's tough, just suck it up and concentrate on your tennis, not on the personalities of your teammates. If I were you, I'd just try to be cool with everyone and not start anything that can lead to tension between the team.

It's a pecking order thing. The established elites are trying to make sure the newbies know who they are and the newbies are trying to make a name for themselves as well.
I agree with the above poster, your best move is to try to be cool with everyone. Don't be a complete push over, stick up for yourself when singled out, but otherwise try to be positive or neutral to everyone and people will begin to notice. Things will calm down soon enough and you never know, you may become great friends with some of these guys. If for nothing else, try to get along with them for the sake of the team. Trust me if you are able to stay above all the petty stuff that can happen on a team then you'll be able to better concentrate on improving your game.

If you allow people to get under your skin then you allow them to control you.

wonder how good your team reall is, a team needs that competative edge if thats what you can call it. People on our team get along we just make fun of each other, but there is a great skill diference in our team our 1 beats me something like 6-4 i beat our third 6-4 i beat 4,5,6 6-2/1

^ We are all friendly on my team too and we've been at the top of the state for the past few years. Last year we were State Runners-Up and this year we were 3rd in the state (we got jipped because the team we lost to only had 1 US citzen the rest were immigrants). This upcoming year we have an amazing chance to win State as a team.
No, our upperclassmen are extremely helpful and friendly. We get to know each other on and off the court. They give tips, advice, talk, mess around, push us during conditioning, but do get our asses in place when its not time to mess around.
sounds like my team :)

Well our varsity team has never had any issues with people being *****s to anyone. I was number 1 singles this year and playing at the college level next year. Three of my teamates are also playing at the same college as me so it will be great. From the entire team 5 of the 8 of us on varsity were seniors. We did everything we could this year to help the upcomming varsity for next year, because if we didn't they would do nothing next year. I must say by the end of a year it was like a second family, and i see most of the team weekly at the courts still. So as i can tell just happens that some people let varisty get to their heads when its just a game. Outside of tennis they are probably nothing.

you should practice non-stop man... u can do it... I played number 8 seat on my team last year. Now i'm playing up there with the number 1 seat... i actually beat him twice now.. Cause i played tennis everyday all year, ran, and worked out... while they just sat and do nothing....
our team is friendly , we all hang out outside of tennis and stuff..

Conditioning is the shiznit!!
No, you are so lucky. Ours sucks. We do 3 court suicides (EVERY LINE), line tracing at a fast pace or we get yelled out, 50-100 crunches, 10-20 pushups, arm lifts on the ground (trains rotator cuffs), jump squats and staggers, jump rope, throwing a football while running around, or we jog down the street and sprint back up.
We usually do 2-3 of those per practice. It blows. Like, truly, it blows.

wow, we just warm up with tennis ball or big rubber ones. **** 3 ours of tennis everyday for me is more than enough without fking running around before actual practice during tennis season

just use what they do as inspiration it is what i did. When i started to play tennis less than 2 years ago i had no clue what i was doing and it showed. I joined the team basically just for the hell of it (we dont cut anyone at our school) and i just started working my ass off so i wouldnt look bad. Now that i have practiced A LOT i dont really get any crap from anyone and now i play anywhere from 3-5 on the team and its all good. Just work hard and let your racquet speak for you.
