Our 3.5 men's team is traveling to Tucson tomorrow for the USTA National Championships. I've never flown w/ tennis gear and am concerned with checking it. Can you carry-on your tennis bag? Anyone have any suggestions or experience in this matter? Thanks

A small tennis bag that holds 3 racquets will fit as a carry on but a bag that holds 6 will probably not, unless you just have tennis racquets in it. I had to check my bag and it was a bag that held 6 racquets and i had three in the bag and things such as shoes and clothes. The bag and everything came out fine, nothing wrong with the racquets whatsoever.

I had a bag with 3 racquets, some balls, a little bit of other stuff. Took it as carry-on, there was no problem.

Ditto what Max said.

Lately, I have packed my frames in a regular hard-sided bag. They take up very little space and the clothes in the bag provide plenty of protection. I use my racket bag as a carry on for other things. It makes it easier to stuff in the overhead without the frames getting slammed.

The luggage hold gets cold but even on a six hour flight, I have noticed little or no difference in string playability.

I've got a big 12 racquet bab case, and have taken it on numerous occasions on flights. I only have usually 5-6 racquets in it, but then I cram all the unused space with other stuff. Fits perfectly into most overhead bins, (haven't had any issues yet), but sometimes it is a tight squeeze on smaller planes like CRJ's. It always fits, though.

Always take a 6-pack bag with me on flights.
Never had a problem.

I take my bag with 4 racquets and all my tennis stuff without a problem.

will it still be alright if i bring my tennis gear on a plane ride that is 14 hours long?

I wouldn't worry. Worst case, you have to gate check it and you can pick your gear up as you de-plane.
