On several occasions, have seen a former world top tenner TM walking around NY. he looks like he has nothing to do. What former pros have relly not done anything after retiring from the tour?

How do you know the original poster is referring to Todd Martin, & another American player from the late 80s w/the same initials? My guess is he's talking about Tim Mayotte.

Todd Martin is coaching Mardy Fish.

Most people only recognize them back in their hayday unless they stick around the game and are on TV alot.

How does walking around NY make him a loser?

Was he walking from panhandling on the corner back to his cardboard box home in an alley somewhere?

There are a lot of losers in this world if walking around outside qualifies you as one. I wish I knew a hermit, I bet he could get me into some rad parties.

Tim Mayotte studied at a Catholic seminary years ago. Not sure if he ever became a priest. He is from the era of tennis players that did attend college.

Tod Martin coaches American Mardy Fish. I think he was in his box at Wimbledon.

You make a boat load of money on the tour and decided to retire...Why work!!! Didn't Sampras just play golf and got bored so he decided to play some tennis on the senior tour. Didn't Lendl do the same - only now he follows his daughters on the golf course.

Bjorn Borg pretty much was a loser after tennis. I wonder how his finances are these days.

Mayotte went to seminary after the tour. He's about 60 pounds heavier than he was on the tour, maybe that explains the loser look.

Is the original poster of this thread going to reveal who TM is? Maybe we're all wrong and he's talking about someone totally different!

the biggest tennis loser of all time was/is roscoe tanner.

here is a rundown of this jewel:

Since retiring from the ATP Tour, Tanner has run into a fair amount of legal trouble with women as well as financial problems, he moved to Germany (Ettlingen) with his wife and daughters:

* Divorcing his wife.
* Divorcing his second wife.
* Impregnating a woman from an escort service.
* Marrying a third wife.
* Writing a bad cheque to buy a $35,595 boat then getting a $10,000 loan with the boat as collateral. The boat was later repossessed after being returned to the owner.
* Spending ten months in jail in Germany, Florida and New Jersey for failing to pay child support and an outstanding debt.

He was arrested while on the court of a tennis tournament in Germany; and then, he was extradited to Florida on charges of passing a bad check, and was wanted in New Jersey due to owing $500,000 in back child support. In 2005, Orange County (CA) authorities put out a warrant for his arrest after he failed to show up for a child support hearing.

In 2005 he co-wrote his autobiography, "Double Fault: My Rise And Fall, And My Road Back".

On January 17, 2006, Tanner was sentenced to two years in prison for violating terms of his probation related to his grand theft conviction for failing to pay the $35,595 check he used to buy a 32-foot boat in 2000.[1]

After serving one year of his two year sentence in a Florida prison, Tanner was released February 1, 2007 after credit for "good behavior". He was then transferred to the Orange County, California jail where he was booked on February 8, 2007 on Criminal Contempt of Court and Failure to Pay Court Ordered Child Support charges.[2][3] The California warrants were issued in mid-1995, and the authorities there had tracked Tanner through several states and European countries before his arrest.

On March 1, 2007, Tanner was convicted and sentenced to 43 days in the Orange County Jail, and put on probation until March 1, 2012.

Last I knew Tim Mayotte was teaching at Manhattan Plaza Racquet Club.

Bjorn Borg pretty much was a loser after tennis. I wonder how his finances are these days. He had sex with a beautiful 17 year-old model. That must count for something.
