With nadal and federers grip being small for their big hands federer using 4 and 3/8 and nadal using 4 and 1/4 how do they maintain a loose grip when they hit their groundstrokes and serves since both of their grips require that they hold on to them tight so they dont fall out.

I'm 6' 3'' with a 28cm handspan and I can use a 4 3/8 grip. 4 1/4 and 4 1/2 are fine as well but 4 5/8 drives me nuts.

^^^wait your hand is 28 cm from the tip of your tallest finger to like the bottom of your hand?? unless your talking about something that sounds really

there was another thread about this somewhere here that confirms the small grip sizes for them as well.. I'm curious why they would choose something that small. i'm 5'9 and prob mid sized hand and i need a 4 5/8 just so that the racquet feels stable during contact especially on off centered shots where racquet tend to twist. i tried using a smaller handle but that gave me about 2 blisters around my index and mid palm on about an hour.

Grip size preference is a function that includes your technique, not just your hand size. As players I know in the Over 35 group switch to the current stroking pattern, they have went to smaller grip usually.

While reading this thread you realize that with these facts Federer before the finals at Wimbledon in the locker will probably tell Nadal "Mine is bigger!"

I use 4 1/4 on mine. I am 5'11" and have pretty decent size hands. I can sometimes use 4 3/8 but anything bigger than that is very difficult to control and I don't get anywhere near as much spin.

They only have smaller grip sizes so they can hold their racquet without it flying out of their hands when hitting a hard ground stroke/volley/serve. Plus, it lets them access more racquet speed head

In an article in the August issue of TENNIS magazine, Roman Prokes apparently told them that Nadal's grip is roughly "4 1/8 inches in circumference".
