He changes his racquet every 7 games, so if he goes 5 sets and each set is 7-6, that's about 9 frames worth. Half a set of Wilson Gut is $18 and half a set of Lux is about $7. That's $25 just for string, not including the labor. Top class stringer is $15 so each frame is $40 X 9. Do all you wannabee's have this kind of scratch ? Seems completely ludicrous when Rod Laver strung his racquets using an awl, won 10 Grand Slams and couldn't play in the Pros for 10 years. Progress is an illusion.

yeah, but because Fed's sponsered, he gets all this string for free.

Blake says he needs a new string job after every 2 hours of hitting.

Actually Laver couldn't play the Slams for 5 years (not 10) because he had turned pro. The Slams were amateur events then and pros were barred from playing them until the advent of Open tennis in 1968.

However Federer does pay Nate Furguson of Priority One to string his racquets.

I knew a stringer who worked pro events. Sampras would bring in all his racquets to get restrung with gut every day--whether he had played with them or not. The stringer hated cutting out gut strings that had never even hit a single ball until he remembered one thing--he was getting paid to do it.
