Would appreciate comments on which machine is superior, especially as the Silent Partner seems to offer more features for less money. I currently use the low-end Tennis Tutor and would like to upgrade to a more challenging machine.

I have the Tennis Tutor 4 Plus and have no complaints. Their customer service is excellent too. If cost is a big issue, I believe you can get Sports Tutor a call and see if they have any demo models for sale.

When I was looking for a ball machine, I came across a guy that bought and sold used ball machines. Basically, he would refurbish and resell them. And what he told me was the Tennis Tutor was the benchmark in portable ball machines. He told me that he had tried several Silent Partner machines but didn't have the heart to resell them because they just didn't hold up nearly as well as the Tennis Tutor machines. I ended up getting a new Tennis Tutor 4P. Like djbrown suggested, I called Sports Tutor and they had a couple demos for sale and that saved me a few hundred bucks. They put in a new battery before sending it to me. They also have a good warranty program. At first I didn't like the flaps that act as the ball hopper. But I found out that Sports Tutor will replace them at no charge for as long as you own the machine. Let me suggest you get the smart charger as opposed to standard battery charger. You can leave the smart charge plugged in to the machine indefinitely without damaging the battery.
