seems like no matter how much i warm up and stretch by the end of my tennis session the front of my shoulder hurts. it's not as bad as it used to be, but it's annoying. what's up? any ideas? or anyone have the same experience?

Yes until my mom the nurse told me about "over strengthening".

Basically, every joint consists of a pair of muscle groups. Overuse of one group (say the forward movement of the shoulder in tennis) can cause the component to get relatively weak. Over time this can cause weakness in the joint and pain/popping. It's like the reverse of a torn rotator-cuff injury (where one group gets too weak from damage)

Cure?
#1 stop playing
#2 exercise the other group. Many pros use therabands (giant flaps of rubber, about 6' long).

#3 ignore it until the pain gets horrible then have surgery/lather-rinse-repeat

I think you should probably strengthen the forward of your shoulder. That will give you faster shots and make you stronger.

You should also make sure it's not a stress fracture of some sort. This HS season before it started I would warm up light serves and then when I went for a little extra I felt burning in my shoulder. My growth plate was separating a little so I went underhand this season as a freshmen.
