Sergio Garcia, the underachieving Spaniard could be on the verge of finally winning his first ever Major title at the British Open. He carries a 3-stroke lead over Steve Stricker into the final round. The closest group with some name players is 6 strokes back. Tiger Woods is a whopping 8 strokes back.

With a three stroke lead it should be his. Does anyone remember people comparing him to Ben Hogan in his early years? Well, Hogan won at Carnoustie. History repeats itself; it's in the bag.

I have also been rooting for him for a long time. This is the perfect situation. I will be super bummed if he does not do it.

As long as he doesn't ask Mickelson for advice he should be fine, not many will give up that large a lead going into the final day.

Garcia had a good chance and he cant come through, not surprising. He loses to Padraig Harrington in a playoff.Too bad for Garcia who still remains without any majors.

Oh well atleast the other best player not to win a major ended up winning. Hopefully Garcia is next. He really blew this one though.

I wanted Garcia to win for Europe but when Harrington started to make a move I had to back him. It would of been great if Sergio could of done it but to have a man from the British Isles be the one to win Europe their first major since 1999 is even better!
Garcia's day will come, maybe sooner rather than later. I always thought that once one European got a major that the flood gates would open up and with Garcia putting well at last, it's exciting times for him.

When it was only those two at the very end I was happy either way since they are the two best players to not win a major, so either way it was great that one would win.
It would have been like Clijsters playing Mauresmo in a slam final 2 years ago.
I feel bad for Garcia since he was the best player the majority of the week, but Harrington was good most of the week, and was by far the best player on Sunday, the most important day of all. The Europeans should be winning more majors anyway. They cant just be doing so well in Ryder Cup since they have better chemistry, or they are lucky as some media in NA suggest. They have enough good players they should win more majors then they do.

I was there! I saw little of Garcia and Harrington throughout the day until the 16th on. I watched Padraig tee-off once or twice (including being about a 5 foot away as he hooked his drive into Barry burn and then followed him down where I saw barely a thing! (as crowd was so huge) I then managed to get a seat in the Grandstand for the play-off and that just capped off an incrediable day, The excitement in the stand was incrediable especially as Sergio hit the incrediable 2nd shot on the 4th play-off hole. As he hit it everyone in the stand was saying "Where is it? Where is it?" Till Smack it drops right onto the green! The air of excitement as the putt appeared to be dropping in for Sergio was huge everyone who stayed was pondering the chance Sergio had to rectify his Double on play-off hole 1. However, as you guys saw the ball just didn't drop and Harrington had an easy putt for a deserved victory. It was really good to see him lift his son jubilantly not only when he won, but also on completion of his 72nd hole

Man, this guy would probably gag going down on a gerbil.
Fret not Sergio: if not this year, then maybe the next. And if not then, then maybe the year after that. And if not the following year, then maybe the year following that one. If not that year, then maybe .... maybe .... never?
