Friend of mine told me Roddick signed a deal with Rolex . I collect vintage rolexs . He made an outstanding choice !

What a terrible move for Rolex. Any Rolex fans who know anything about tennis may be turned off...

I can see Edberg or Henman with Rolex but Roddick?

Roddick should be sponsoring a swatch or some other Gen ex teen idol nonsense

I think Roddick is a better Tag Heuer endorser, young and hip. Federer on the other hand, is perfect for Rolex with his quiet elegance. Henman would also be a good member for team Rolex.

I assume you're talking about on court elegance here right? Last time I checked the ponytail was a very close second to the earing as a no no. Remember the cowboy hat in Houston?

Also, the Rolex culture is all about the 'tool watch' idea. If you want 'quiet elegance' you go for Patek or Audemart not Rolex...

Yeah, I am familiar with the "tool watch" image, but the truth is in their tennis ads it is much more about tradition and class, they always show wimbledon. I guess Roddick is a tool though, so he should have a tool watch! It's not like Federer has a mullet, and he has been in Rolex ads, so I guess they are ok with the ponytail.

It seems the guy scored an endorsement indeed. Anyone here noticed how fast he put his watch on after his Miami win? After that he kept playing with his cap so that the watch would be on the picture. It was definitely a jubilee bracelet but I didn't get to see the dial.

I noticed that too David. As soon as Coria quit, the datejust jumped on the wrist and Andy's hat didn't go untouched. Why Rolex would want to sponsor someone who behaves the way he does on court is beyond me. They should have stuck with Federer, he's a great ambassador for the sport and the watch maker.

Roddick's no Rolex guy. Shouldn't Rolex have chosen a "class act?"

Who cares, let the company do whatever they want. Although, personally, I would have chosen someone like Michael Chang.

Rolex? Roddick is a G-Shock kinda guy.

Surely you'd think they would pick a player who appeals to the type of people that can actually afford Rolex's, not some spoilt Yank that looks as if he's been taken out of a boy band.

I thougth he would have picked a Daytona or the Aniversary "green" Sub. not an ordinary Date Just.

Why would he be paid to push watches that have 2 years waiting lists already?

I have a "green" sub & do you think he would have to wait ?

@wright

I think David meant that it wouldn't boost sales since the watches are in pretty short supply already. The smart thing would be to push a watch that they have plenty of so when people see Andy wearing it, there will be one for them to buy.

Yep. And they will advertise the watch with the highest margin - That would be a Cellini, a 2 tone yachtmaster or something silly like this. A datejust is the closest thing to that on the wrist of a tennis player.

Have in mind that Rolex is still privately owned... They don't have a very sophisticated approach to advertising and branding...

Yes privately owned God forbid they ever become part of the Swatch Group .

I think Andy should strap on a yellow gold DayDate after every match. Talk about class!
