I was watching some tennis the other day, and I was wondering how the pros make like 3-4 backhand slices in a row.....by that i mean once the ball hits the ground deep in the court it barely bounces since they put some mad backspin on it, I was wondering how they can still slice the ball over the net?

First of all, I don't see pros doing this very often, and don't think it is the best reply to a deep, low ball.

If the ball is fairly high (waist high or higher) the slice from deep court can be effective, but hit from a foot or so above the court, a sliced ball is going to tend to sail high. It will be difficult to control and easy for a net-rusher to put away.

What I see pros do more often, when they are caught short and do not have time for a full stroke, is to flick through the ball using mainly the forearm and wrist to create topspin that drives the ball back into the oponent's court.

If you still want to try to slice these balls, try "chopping" through the ball and pulling the racket toward your body at the same time-- though I do not recommend this as an effective strategy.

Because they are pros and have spent 1000s of hours perfect there technique and footwork that allows them to do that. They just slice it like we do, but they are stronger and more consistent.

Topspin tends to be easier because you're adding to the spin on the ball -if they slice it, any backspin is rotating in the same direction as topspin. So you don't have to cancel anything out.

At the same time, if the ball is too low, topspin can be hard if you can't get under the ball. Slicing becomes the easiest option, as it allows you to easily get the ball over the net.

I wouldn't chop, and I definitely wouldn't try to pull the racquet towards your body. Pulling in and not following through wouldn't accomplish anything, except for causing the ball to pop up even more, unnecessarily so.

Unless you're used to pulling off drop shots as such, in which case your shot is still fodder for the netrusher example you provided.

I'd drive through the ball if it's still in a contact zone you're comfortable with, or drive a slice again.

Even so, Bagumbawalla -I might be misunderstanding you, or I might be entirely wrong.

hmm.. i barely slice or even think ive ever slice a ball b4 except maybe on a serve once or twice b4 but maybe i hit a rock or something i dunno, im a baseliner and hav a better BH then B4 now, i use to be bad at BH but now i hav a very flat BH like my FH and it doesn't hit the net as much LOL . OVERALL i can't SLICE!

BUT.. i do kno a friend that slices every shot that is sent to him, his play style changes very rapidly thought, like one day i play him he would win all his service games wif ACES, but other times he does this SUPER HIGH LOB on a serve, but now he rarely smashes like B4 and like i hav said he could also slice every ball that is sent to him, there are also times when he would lose 6-0 though HAHA but a great partner
