Making a permanent grass court is a piece of cake (white spray paint, a real net, strawberries, cream, etc.) Making a portable grass tennis court is only for the pros...

What you'll need:

-A flat piece of lawn (although an uneven lawn filled with hazards like manhole covers and garden snakes would be awesome as hell)
-Lots of tape
-Cardboard
-Nylon string
-4' file cabinet poles
-Bricks (the ones stolen from construction sites work the best, I have found)
-Tenpenny nails
Total cost (not including lawn): $30

1) Make the lines by putting tape on both sides of your nylon string.
2) Cut out squares of cardboard and lay them wherever your lines intersect.
3) Drive nails through the squares and into the ground.
4) Drive the poles into the ground.
5) Put bricks around the poles
6) Make net tape.
7) Serve and volley.

We got tired towards the end, so we didn't make the doubles alleys.

Just find a soccer/football field!

The best part was the diving. I got grass stains I still can't get out.

The second best part was the serving. If the ball hits grass, it skids. If it hits a divot, it jumps 20' in the air. If it hits a snake, it bounces up with sidespin.

White masking tape, 2.5 inches wide. Pretty cheap.

I curse at the server, play stops, we put the poles back up. To prevent this from happening all the time, we put a few bricks around the base of each pole.

That would compromise the aesthetics of your tennis court, but sure, why not?

I'm not ready for that kind of commitment! How 'bout a "I love you very much" ring?

Problem with my yard would be the fossilized dog poops.. Never get a consistent bounce off of those. :-D

wowsers i just did some math and its 329 feet of tape if you wanna make a singles court with a 29 feet long net. and with SUPER durable duct tape reassuring that a serve will nto rip through the net will bring our cost of TAPE ALONE to be 29.50 given that you buy rolls of tape in packs of 30yds at 2.69 a pack. whatcha say guys? is it worth it? hmmm a portable tennis court for the price of getting a full pro hurricane string job at a pro shop. tempting... but i might have issues explaining to my dad about the need for 329 feet of duct tape...

excuse my horrible math but i forgot to convert yards into feet during my calculations. so my math was for a tennis court with use of 329 yards. what a mistake that was. yeha in all with duct tape buying in packs of 2.69 for 30 YARDS = 90 ft. your total should coem out to be around 10 bucks? LOL

how about sheet rock tape...not sure if that's what it's called?? it's white, about 2 inches wide and you can get it in large rolls at home depot or lowes

i think i'm going to try this!
