From my educational guesses, there are 3 times you could hit the ball on a groundstroke (forehand and 1h/2h bh may vary)

This is the principle i stick to, if this idea is completely wrong, I am open for criticism.

If you know what a wave (sine/cosine wave) looks like. I think the first time you can hit is when the ball hits the ground and rises to the level when the wave is at rest (idealistically, your hip level?). Or just basically the "hitting on the rise"

The next one is at your shoulder level, slightly below the crest of the wave

Then the next one is at hip level again.

I started 2 month ago, I cannot guarantee to hit the ball on the rise all the time. Most of the time I have to back up (3-10 feet behind the baseline) and then hit the ball.

I think for now i just need to not be lazy and move up to the ball, footwork training might help too.

Any suggestions
