View Full Version : Hand Injury from New Grip

I've been trying to get over a lifetime of switching grips when volleying and so forced myself to use a continental grip during a doubles match. Woke up barely able to grip anything and a week later moving my center finger still causes pain (much worse with forehand than backhand).

I thought I prepared pretty well by doing tons of forearm exercises and using a hand gripper.

Wondered if anyone else had similar experiences and/or suggestions to manage it.

Thanks in advance,

Jon

Had a chance to read some of the related posts on ulnar pain and they convinced me that seeing a hand specialist is in order (as I've always had minor pain in that area, just from using a computer mouse)...

Can anyone recommend a hand specialist in the Boston area?

just using a computer mouse causing pain? there must be something wrong with your hand. go see a hand specialist and have it checked out right away

This may seem obvious but make sure the grip on the racket is not to small or to big.

Can this really cause pain? or is it just a rumour?

As I grow I stick with a 4 3/8, but I am starting to get very bad wrist pain. My hand measures for about a 4 5/8 to 4 3/4 grip. Can this really cause intense wrist pain?

P.S. When I hold my hand in an eastern grip with an overgrip on my 4 3/8 racquet, my fingers touch the bottom of my palm.

it's probably the grip. when i used a 4 1/2 grip it really jacked up my hand. smaller grips won't do that, and you can just put an overgrip on them.
