That's what I call a three-dimensional game.

And this is what I call sweet:

And? what's "real" about it? Aside from serve and volley being played, there is absolutely nothing special about it. Is serve and volley somehow a prerequisite to playing "real" tennis? Is it some sort of a prerequisite to having a "three dimensional game" (whatever that means). Hell, in the 90's the serve and volley tennis (emphasis on serve, since most serves by the big servers were not returned with any authority), was derided by many as being too boring...To a certain extent, they were right... the faster grass at Wimbledon did indeed almost turn it into the "world serving championship".

The rapid fire at the net is of course interesting, but it hardly ever happened in the 90's (in singles.. doubles is another story).

There is absolutely nothing special about any of those highlights... nor does anything in it make the tennis played any more "real" then the tennis played today. If you want to whine about the lack of serve and volley tennis today, fine... but don't try to claim that baseline tennis is any less "real". Highlights from the 2000's can be just as impressive, if not more so...

These are great clips, although Ivanisevic and Ferrero are probably not the best examples of well-rounded players. Ivanisevic, although a server and volleyer, got more and more one-dimensional as he got older. Particularly due to his serve.

Edberg, however, truly did play a well rounded game. I also miss Rafter.

Real tennis is the original racquet sport from which the modern game of lawn tennis, or tennis, is descended. Real tennis is still played at a small number of active courts in the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States and France
