View Full Version : When feeding the ball during practice

For those that typically hit with SW and lots of topspin, when you are starting a practice rally do you feed the ball with your normal forehand, or do you do something different, such as forehand slice? Sometimes it looks like the pros feed with a forehand slice, but I'm not sure if thats true or not.

I don't feed the ball with a normal forehand, I just hit the ball like a forehand slice but without much pace and rotation

i just knock it forward and flat at around 3/4 pace of rally

Actually, that forehand slice (most of the time) is actually more of a half volley. They use a continental (volley/serve) grip and just hit the ball flat to their opponent for a feed. If you watch coaches feed rally balls to their students they usually feed this way.

I feed a topspin shot with continental grip and normally hit with a mild western grip. Its basically perfect as s feed.
