United States - 118
Argentina - 81

Ouch.

Yes, come the Olympics in Beijing, Argentina will probably field a stronger team, and France, Spain, Croatia and a few others will probably be a little stronger than some of the teams that competed in the FIBA Americas championship.

That said, do not think those other national teams around the world didn't take notice, or maybe even wince looking at Carmelo Anthony, Lebron James and Kobe Bryant flying over and around their hapless competition to "throw down" one rim-rocking slam dunk after another in earnest. Not only did they utterly destroy every team in their path, they racked up some "numbers" that underscore just dominating this team was:

Points scored off of fast breaks:
United States = 259
Opponents = 70

Points scored off of turnover:
United States = 143
Opponents = 44

Points scored (inside) in 'the lane' :
United States = 247
Opponents = 145
(look for the U.S. to add another pair of big men, e.g Chris Boah & Carlos Boozer to the Olympic squad--double ouch)

A supposed weakness: outside shooting? The U.S. hit 47% of their 3-point attempts.; that is when they weren't "throwing it down" HARD in someone's face.

Over the course of the 10 games that this team played, the United States AVERAGED 116.7 points each game which is a STAGGERING figure considering the 40 minute game clock. Their sheer firepower was stunning; and was nowhere close to being equaled--anywhere.

The mystique is returning.

They're back.
